News in brief:

Aspire’s Luton Airport lounge due to open on 4th August

The Aspire lounge as London Luton Airport is due to re-open on 4th August.

The good news is that the lounge has been completely refurbished.  It originally closed in late January, with a view to re-opening in mid-March.  Clearly that wasn’t going to happen.

Scattered throughout this ‘Bits’ article are a few ‘artist impressions’ of how it is meant to look.  We can hopefully take a look over the next few weeks.

It will be accessible with Priority Pass (buy one here, or get one free with American Express Platinum) or Lounge Club (get two free passes with American Express Gold).

Eurostar lounge at London St Pancras due to re-open on 3rd August

Meanwhile, Eurostar has confirmed to a HFP reader that it is re-opening its lounges on Monday 3rd August.

Our review of the London St Pancras Eurostar lounge is here – it has since gained a cocktail bar on the upper level.  Our latest review of the Paris Eurostar lounge is here.  There are also lounges at Brussels and Ebsfleet.

Access is available to Business Premier passengers, Eurostar Carte Blanche cardholders or anyone holding an American Express Platinum charge card (no guests allowed, although your supplementary Platinum cardholder can get in by showing their own card).

How to get Club Eurostar points and lounge access from UK credit cards

How to get Club Eurostar points and lounge access from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Club Eurostar does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Club Eurostar points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 15:1 into Club Eurostar points.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, so you will get the equivalent of 1 Club Eurostar point for every £15 you spend.

American Express Platinum comes with a great Eurostar benefit – Eurostar lounge access!

You can enter any Eurostar lounge, irrespective of your ticket type, simply by showing The Platinum Card at the desk.  No guests are allowed but you can get entry for your partner by issuing them with a free supplementary Amex Platinum card on your account.

Checked avios.com (Aer Club) and can see no avios reward flights showing on BHD-EDI route

  • Fred says:

How much are domestic taxes on a reward flight booking on the BHD – EDI Aer Lingus (Stobart) route?

(The linked article only references long haul)

    • ECR says:

I can’t see any flights loaded on that route yet, but assume the Aer Lingus tax and charges will be in line with their other avios flights from the respective airports, i,e, BHD (to LHR) is £35.92 one way and EDI (to DUB) is £41.91 one way. Assuming it is the same you could expect it to be just under £78 return for the tax and charges alone.

  • Roger Everitt says:

This may be a bit convoluted, but bear with me.
To book to Belfast on the Stobart flight, I am taken to the Aer Lingus booking page.
As Aer Lingus are a One World partner, can I now use a Avios for the Stobart flights. Can I now earn Tier points?

    Just a thought

    • ao40 says:

Aer Lingus is not part of Oneworld. BA might get a codeshare on these routes though, then you could earn tier points if you book under the BA code.

    • ECR says:

Aer Lingus are not in oneworld so you will not earn BA tier points but will earn avios booking on Aer Lingus. It is possible that the flights may become available on British Airways site as a BA codeshare, in which case if booked under a BA code they will earn tier points, however, for other Aer Lingus booked on a standalone basis the price under a BA code is generally so inflated it is not worthwhile.

Does anyone know if a lounge is open in AMS for BAEC silver? I’m flying AMS to LHR on Sunday with BA but can’t find ouT online if the lounge is open. BTW, I was in Galleries south yesterday from 1pm to 3:30pm. The place wasn’t too busy. Order at table only with app. No champagne on menu. Only sparkling wine. I didn’t ask for any but I didn’t see any. Good food and service though the staff didn’t know the table numbers and were constantly walking about with trays looking for the right table. The numbering WAS odd with table 41 next to table 451 (for example). Nothing to take away. Not even crisps. Overall an enjoyable experience. Though I did miss being able to pop a few Speedbirds in the bag for the hotel room.

    • Rob says:

It was shut earlier in the week.

      • APPL says:

It’s still closed, but there were some people moving stuff around today. Next door Aspire is open if you have Priority Pass. Overall it’s very quiet and plenty of places to sit in the terminal. No queues for security and passport control either. Very pleasant experience.

  • ECR says:

I wouldn’t get excited about being able to use avios for the new Belfast flights, as Aer Lingus does not use Reward Flight Saver, and their tax and charges short-haul are generally so extreme that it is rarely worthwhile.

    • Rob says:

Given these are monopoly routes in many cases you may find they are pricey.

      • ECR says:

Easyjet fly from BFS to EDI, MAN and BHX. A random date I selected for Aer Lingus from BHD to EDI was under £30 one way, albeit still a couple of pounds more than Easyjet. There is no competition to Exeter, but LBA and EMA are close enough to MAN and BHX to have some limited degree of competition from flights to those airports.

Eurostar lounge question. Due to travel from Ebbsfleet to DLP in a couple of months, wife and I are both Amex Plat holders but will be travelling with our kids 6 & 8. Does anyone know if we would be able to use the lounge or do the kids count as guests?

  • Peter says:

    A little help please.
I have an avios return booking for TXL booked for a long weekend in September. Booking was made last November. I know TXL is effectively closed.
BA have cancelled the outbound and moved in my flight a couple of hours. I have only been offered a voucher, does it work OK with avios? Or can I take the refund based on BA cancelling?
Still want to travel to Berlin, next September 2021 instead, wife is running Berlin Marathon (hopefully)
    Thanks

So if the Eurostar lounge is open what’s the likely hood of them starting food / drink on the trains?
