The new HFP chat thread – Thursday 13th August

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/08/13/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-13th-august/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HFP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

My first flight to Denver has been changed to a 787-10 – does anyone know anything about First on this plane ?

    • Andrew says:

It’s nothing different to First on the 787-9 – BA didn’t launch any new First products for their new aircraft orders.

Barbados next year departing from LHR now, First may of been dropped but could be Club Suites😃

My flight has just been cancelled by BA Malaga to LHR on 1 Sept. I want to rebook it for next summer, but the date I want to fly on hasn’t been released by BA yet. Does anyone know how long BA keeps your flight status as ‘cancelled’ when you are able to decide whether to take a voucher/refund/rebook?

  • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

    Yes, no, yes, yes

You can see the full list of available products in your referral link.

Has anyone had recent success with the Tesco pet insurance points (this is for an actual pet!). I’ve heard some reports of people having to chase for the points, and as a new policy is £15 more than my renewal quote with the current provider I’m wondering if it is worth the hassle… Thanks

I have a BA flight to Vegas in late October. What are the chances it will be cancelled?

    • Alex says:

I’m also supposed to be flying to Vegas on October. I think BA are doing 1 flight a day to Vegas from LHR but currently not advised to enter the USA and can’t see that changing for a while.

I’m still holding out for my flight being cancelled but will take a voucher last minute if I can’t get a refund.

      • AndyK says:

I don’t think that entry requirements will change so no chance for us to fly really.
Holding off cancelling in hope of BA blinking first.
It’s Avios booking so have time to wait

I had a flight from LAS to LHR for late September get cancelled on Monday (outbound to SFO still going apparently).

Will probably get cancelled in a few weeks if nothing changes.

    Hello,

I had a flight booked from Zagreb to Edinburgh via London. BA redemption in business.

BA have let me know the London to Edinburgh flight has been cancelled.

Owing to the recent earthquake in Zagreb and covid I’d planned to cancel the trip anyway, but had been holding out to see if BA would first, to avoid the £35 fee.

Even though it’s only one part of the connecting flight, should I be able to say that in light of the cancellation of that part I’d like to cancel the whole thing and get my Avios / Money back?

    • AJA says:

As long as it is one ticket on one PNR for both sectors outbound and inbound you can cancel for full refund if one sector gets cancelled. Remember you have to phone to get a cash refund.

    • Lady London says:

yes – or travel a day earlier and get BA to agree to pay for your hotel

  • BJ says:

Anybody tried the Hilton Disney Channel offer; did it work ok? I clicked on the link inside my Hilton email but there is no evidence of the Hilton offer on the landing page. Does that come later or does it just work automatically by clicking through from the email?

Interesting insight in to Revolut business model:
    https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/revolut-2020-annual-accounts-100m-loss-092819590.html

Most money from interchange fees, losses = £100m. 99% profits from the UK.

I can see why they don’t like those topping up with credit cards…

    • BS says:

Hmm dont like the look of:

“Revolut worked with collapsed German payments giant Wirecard until June.”

Didn’t they go bust in June? I thought Revolut wan’t involved
