We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

    Advise needed.
    Just got another useless message from LOT saying that refund can take up to 3 months. And I have been waiting for a month already.
    Thoughts on going to Amex for S75?

      Should be quicker. I did it a charge back on my standard BA Amex for Ryanair in June and it took 2 months. Not sure if that is normal as the hotel charge backs I did took around 1 month and put they credit in account immediately.

      I recall live chat saying something about airlines usually taking longer as they are dealt with differently, not sure if thats true or they handled the dispute incorrectly.

      .Legal is they owe you refund in 7 days under EU261 most of us giving at least 30 in these times.

      Go to card – try chargeback first. s75 if credit card and further long delays.

      LOT is in the Lufthansa cohort. Lufthansa has not been paying people and I wonder if LOT felt under pressure to fall in line.

      Have no hesitation about going to your card given how long it’s been.

    Just want to check I’ve got this right – If book flights to Portgal to fly in September I can always get a future travel voucher back if I don’t want to use them? Just checking as booked to go to greece but want a fall back plan in case Greece requires quarantine.

    1 – a question – can someone post how to find the ‘request refund’ part of the website? I read it on here but now can’t find it and mr google isn’t showing me the goods either.

    2 – Direct trains from Amsterdam Centraal and Rotterdam finally starting on 26th October. Booking opens on 1st September. Rather annoyed as I booked a return trip on the 2nd November on the Thalys as that was the only option available and that’s much more expensive than the direct train would be (hence my 1st question as want to see if I can get that refunded)

      I tried booking but couldn’t find anything coming back after mid-November. So booked Easyjet instead!

      It took five days to get a response, which then says that it takes a further 28 days to get the payment refunded onto the original payment card. I got this last Thursday.

    Is BA holding back Tokyo to London Avios seats in August21? I’ve checked at 1am, only London to Tokyo seats appeared, but not the other way round. Thanks.

      Use the BA holiday Finder. Select Europe, then Greece and then if required the resorts/islands

    Anyone tried maximising the Amex Shop Small and other offers by issuing the maximum number of free supplementary cards on an account? I.e. can I issue myself or my family with the additional free gold cards and multiply my offers?

      Pretty sure there are many family pets with Supp cards… Be warned though Amex have been known to close accounts due to unusual Shop Small activity and they probably got hit hard for it hence why it is now capped at £50 total.

          On a serious note I’ve just started getting supps for family with just the surname on. Hotels can be funny and cost me hitting an offer before.

      Multiple transactions in the same shop on same day will lead to attention from Amex & possibly the end of your relationship with them. If you’ve got a local shop you visit regularly then you could take advantage with the longer shop small duration this time.

      I and my partner got multiple cards (main and supp). Been using this specific oriental shop for groceries during this shop small window.. So far done 7 cards still a few more to go. No chase from amex yet so far. We’ve transferred our MR points out to BAEC anyway as we are closing down all the card. Not much risk unless amex gonna blacklisting us!? 🤷🏾‍♂️

          Yup! I’ve seen report of covid treatment case cost over 1 million USD!

          But it will probably cover the 95% of those that might get COVID19 but don’t need intensive care.
