The Government announced this afternoon that anyone returning to England from Portugal will need to quarantine for 14 days.

The quarantine requirement will kick in from 4am on Saturday morning.

Scotland and Wales had already imposed quarantine rules on Portugal.

The ruling does NOT apply to the Azores and Madeira.

Coronavirus

The Government has also imposed quarantine on those returning from:

Hungary

French Polynesia

Reunion

However, Sweden will be removed from the quarantine list.

The four new quarantine countries will presumably be added to the Foreign Office ‘do not travel’ list (click here). This is usually the trigger for being to abandon your holiday plans and make a successful travel insurance claim.

The official ‘travel corridor’ list – which has already been updated with these changes – is on this page of the Government website.

I still plan to go to Portugal next month for a short break.

The Algarve seems safer than some parts of the UK!

  • DaveL says:

Are BA likely to reduce flights to Portugal for the coming weeks? Currently seems to be quite high volume. Wondering if my Algarve booking (in 4 weeks) is likely to get cancelled sooner rather than later…or if they will just keep flights running regardless of the change of status

  • TomH says:

@Rob or @Rhys are you intending to update your list of “Where can you still travel to from the UK?”

It’s the most helpful list I’ve seen but aware it drifts further from correct with every passing day.

    • Rob says:

We will. I was going to do it this weekend but we are fairly full and it takes time to update so it may appear next week.

  • Patrick c says:

The whole quarantine rules are so pointless it’s startling.

It really is a question of what you do, i.e. partying, or visiting etc.
Obviously wearing masks & distancing where possible.

The virus really doesn’t stop at the border (though maybe some behavior does?)
