Marriott Bonvoy is running another deal when you buy their hotel points.

Via this page of the website, you will get a 50% bonus on all points purchases until 22nd October.

This is, pretty much, as good as it gets for a Marriott Bonvoy bonus.

Marriott Bonvoy buy points bonus

The annual purchase cap of 50,000 points has been TRIPLED to 150,000 points.  With the bonus, this means that you could pick up 225,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

At the top end you are paying $1,875 (£1,463) for 225,000 points under this offer.

My rule of thumb is that a Marriott Bonvoy point is worth 0.5p so this offer is not great at 0.65p per point.

However, you might find it worthwhile if:

you are topping off your account before making a points booking, or

you are close to 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points and want to make a transfer into airline miles (you get a bonus of 5,000 airline miles when you transfer 60,000 Bonvoy points into 20,000 airline miles), or

you are planning a stay at a property where you know you will get outsized value

The increased limit means that you can, for once, buy enough points to really take advantage of this deal.  The St Regis New York, for example, can easily run to $1,300 per night including taxes, which makes 85,000 Marriott Bonvoy points (on a ‘Standard Reward’ day) a great deal.

Whilst New York is probably off the list for a while, the brand new St Regis Venice pictured below is a potential opportunity.

You can also transfer up to 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per year from one member to another.  You need to ring up to do this, which is a bit annoying, but that is the only restriction.  This is one way around the limit on points purchases.

Because you can buy 60,000 points in one go, it is also a way of picking up 25,000 airline miles in programmes where you can rarely buy them cheaply.

Do NOT do this with Avios, because there are regular offers to buy Avios for 1p – 1.1p.  However, it might make sense for other airlines.

Buying 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points under this offer will cost exactly $500 (£390).  If you turned this into 25,000 airline miles, you are paying 1.55p per mile.  With SOME airline schemes, you might find this valuable.  After all, there are not many easy ways to pick up Air Canada etc miles in the UK.

The link to buy Marriott Bonvoy points with a 50% bonus is here if you are interested.  The offer runs to 22nd October.

Re transferring from one member to another:

My partner never had a Marriott account, but he has quite a few MR points with Amex.

Will there be any restrictions if he open a new Marriott account, and then transfer points from MR to Marriott, then transfer the points to me? Thanks

  • Steve says:

Many Marriott hotels I’ve looked at are offering a 25% off “welcome back” rate at present where they include breakfast. These make the redemption value even lower, so even with the points bonus I’ve found the cash rates are far more attractive (for now).

    • Anna says:

Their “park and stay” airport prices are quite reasonable at the moment (cheaper than Hilton and a nicer hotel) – I’ve booked a couple of stays with parking included at MAN before early flights to keep my account alive as it’s looking unlikely I’ll have any other Marriott stays next year!

    • Andrew says:

Blend the “Welcome Back” rate and the LBG, Santander & Amex offers and there’s little incentive to buy or use points for short breaks.

      • Harry T says:

Yep, I’m considering this a year to generate points through stays and promotions when cash rates are low. I’ll spend the points next year when I have better status, and cash rates go up.

  • BP says:

The HJH healthcare rates are superb in some cases. £250 a night for an exec room at the Marriott Park Lane. Upgraded to an Executive suite (£1470 RRP) using my Platinum status match. Split the bill over my Amex and Santander offers making it £202.50 a night. Bargain. Exec drinks and breakfast was in the main restaurant.

    • Harry T says:

London EDITION also a steal for £149 a night.

      • TGLoyalty says:

What proof is required and what counts as healthcare?

for example would a community pharmacist or pharmacy workers qualify? If they look for the the NHS logo they wouldn’t find it as its not directly part of the NHS.

        • Harry T says:

The AC Belfast asked to see my “NHS ID”. Augustine asked me for ID too but weren’t highly specific. I have an NHS ID badge saying doctor, that’s connected to an NHS lanyard, so not ever going to have issues.

        • BP says:

It’s not NHS or doctor specific. Any “healthcare” job qualifies reading the rules. My missus is a dental nurse in an NHS practice and we were going to use her ID if asked but we weren’t asked.

  • cinereus says:

You’d have to be mad to buy at these prices. I have about 300k Marriott I’m desperate to get rid of!
