  • Louise K says:

Can someone just confirm these flights would be covered under the BWC?

    • Harry T says:

Yes, anything booked before 13th October 2020 for travel dates up to 31st August 2021 is covered. Probably worth making a copy of the terms and conditions.

    • Rob says:

      Yes

  • ChrisC says:

In not so good news it looks like the BRU/LUX cheap flights have now gone

    • Harry T says:

      I’m glad I booked some!

    • Adrian says:

Yes, they were gone by tea time yesterday, but they were around for 9 days. Flyertalk is great for monitoring these deals, if you like bargains are are flexible with EU start points premium fare deals and tier point runs threads give you some great ideas!

    • Jerrry Butler says:

Why waste money going to BRU/LUX first Christopher? In any case Brussels has highest Covid infections of any capital city in Europe except Madrid at present.

      • Jonathan says:

Exactly! I’d been flirting with the LUX deal but held off as it added another layer of uncertainty. Now essentially the same deal has popped up from LHR I’ve happily rolled the dice on Cape Town end of January & California end of March. 10 days for both with car hire at less than £1k per person (& only £350 deposit) is a no brainer. Creative routing to LA via JFK (600TP’s) will get me over the line for Gold again & 60+k Avios for each booking takes net price down even further.

Yes it’s 50/50 but I’m not going to lose sleep or money on either booking so why not?

      • ChrisC says:

My name is not Christopher. Don’t you dare assume anything about me. Not the first time you;ve done this so just STOP.

If I did this route it would only be in a quick transit doing a back to back. Plus it would be next year when things would be very different.

Also the savings in starting in Europe can be significant even allowing for the cost of positioning flights.

        • Jerrry Butler says:

@ ChrisC Apologies but pleading not guilty I’m afraid, not assuming anything other than you are having a bad day and/or are highly strung. But to your point, I agree that savings are there to be made flying from Ex UK destinations, but currently these are negated by relatively high positioning flights.

          • ChrisC says:

You assumed my name was ‘Christopher;’ when it isn’t. I find that insulting when you know nothing about me.

It’s not about having a bad day but about respecting peoples names.

Perhaps you are the one having a bad day or are highly strung?

Oh and the price of positioning flights is not that high to BRU/LUX. Heck if you are near London you can even get the train to BRU.

          • babyg says:

            relax Chris*.*

        • Jerrry Butler says:

@ChrisC You can accept the apology if you wish, or not. We can agree to disagree on the cost of positioning flights, a thank you is in order as you have given me a good laugh with your hissy fit today.

        • Jess Hilton says:

My God Chris you have some serious issues.

      • Harry T says:

If you wanted to book for August next year and get very cheap J tickets to upgrade to first, then LUX and BRU were your friends this time.

  • Adrian says:

Whether this is a mirage or it really happens, the book with confidence is what makes it work.
I’ve booked 2 x LAS at £974 pp for March, but i really have nothing to lose. BA is my airline of choice, generally they have been good with refunds (esp. lately) and normally i will fly 5-6 times a year.
    Outcomes
The flight operates and we are not allowed in, i can cancel for a voucher
The flight doesn’t go and i get a full refund (or re-booked later in the year if that is an option)
The flight goes and i get a lovely holiday

Worst-case scenario BA gets a short term loan, I’m ok with that.

    • stevenhp1987 says:

I was looking at LAS plus hotel – around £1,200 for flights + 7 nights in Caesars Palace end of March. ~ £1,350 with a car.

Tempted… but a week in Vegas if there’s no shows yet would be a tad boring…

    • Genghis says:

+1 I booked Cape Town for the three of us for mid-late Feb and that was my thinking.
@Rob thanks for the heads up on this.

  • Paul says:

Managed to get LHR-PHX in Jan for 12 days for £974 each, on hold at the moment whilst we see if it’ll work for us. Felt it was worth a £20 punt. Also managed to change a 241 Amex next year and save 57750 avios. All still slightly improbable at the moment but suddenly feeling the love for BA.

  • Simon CH says:

I wonder if the USA will open its borders before mid next year.
So likely these flights will not go ahead.
Also what other requirements will be needed?
    Tests and certificates etc??

I guess BA needs cash flow for now, so this is a good way to get some.
Great offer, if it was for late next year.

  • Louise K says:

Can seem to get anything near these prices starting from MAN.

    • Axil23 says:

Louise have a play about with the arrival and departure airports. I couldn’t get a return to work from EDI but departing EDI and return to LHR lowered the price.

    • Helen says:

My flights + a week’s car hire to CPT were an extra £120 from Glasgow.

  • Graeme says:

So if you book flights and add a hotel, it’s classed as a holiday and only a deposit is required and that deposit is refunded via a voucher if you cancel under the guarantee? If you book flights only, it is paid fully up front and if you cancel, it is refunded via vouchers, do I have that right?

    • Jonathan says:

Essentially, yes. Definitely worth turning into a holiday as it commits far less cash until the stage that you’ll know one way or another if you’re going. Plus I’m not going to struggle spending a £350 voucher with BA before April ‘22 whereas £2k needing to be spent could force you into an overpriced booking down the line.

      • Graeme says:

        Excellent, thanks Jonathan.

        • Graeme says:

Although, it does appear as far as I can make out, that deposit’s aren’t refundable on flight plus hotel bookings. It’s not very clear though.

          • Jonathan says:

Not in normal times but they are covered under Book With Confidence for bookings made by 13th October so you can get your deposit back as a voucher.

  • Vit says:

CPT or SEZ in Feb? Looking to combined both valentine and my birthday. Partner is not a big fan of beach but could do with some relaxing in warm weather. Never been to southern hemisphere — guessing it would be late summer over there?

    • Rhys says:

Seychelles is more of a beachy destination. CPT is great but not really a lay-by-the-pool all day kind of place…

      • Vit says:

Thanks Rhys. Would love to visit a friend in the US but it is just not too appealing at the moment to me even in 6 months times. Will do a bit of research into CPT and as other reader suggest try to book it as holiday.

I’ve never booked holiday package through ba before; if we get to go can we cancel the one night hotel booking later on? or it will depend on T&C of the hotel?

        • Jonathan says:

99% sure you can’t cancel the hotel although you can change it for a fee. Either way, 1 night hotel or a small car for a week is often same price or cheaper than flight alone plus you get the added benefits of deposit, bonus Avios, ATOL & much better UK based customer service. Plenty of people add a car or cheap hotel on with no intention of using it.
