The HfP chat thread – Sunday 25th October

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/10/25/the-hfp-chat-thread-sunday-25th-october/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I might regret posting this but for Mr & Mrs Smith fans, Eckington Manor in the Cotswolds seems to have award some availability for 40k points pn. 30 day cancellation policy though. Looks idyllic!

Booked May bank holiday weekend for 62500 points.

Actually quite a few of them seem to be loaded up for next year, sorry if I’d missed it!

        • meta says:

32.5k per night in June. Needs to be cancelled by phone!

          • Anna says:

I’ve not seen that, but I just clicked through to the cancellation page and it looks like any other IHG cancellation?

          • meta says:

@Anna it does look like that, but when you click cancel it a pop-up appears with contact Customer Service or Dismiss.

    @Patrycja,

I read on the qatar airways website that any tickets bought/ticketed before the 31st of December 2020 you are allowed to have unlimited date changes and also destination changes. Have a look on their website!

    • marcw says:

…doesn’t mean they are free of charge though,

    • Patrycja says:

I can’t see the details about fair matching I.e. just transferring me to a different date without additional cost. Please do let me know if I missed this part

      • Callum says:

It has to be in the same booking class, though there seems to be some flexibility with that (I changed mine to a date without the same booking class being publicly available but I wasn’t charged anything).

Did you say you requested to change the date to December 2021? I wouldn’t imagine that would be possible given there’s no schedule released that far in advance. Perhaps that’s why they advised you to hold on to the ticket?

  • Tw33ty says:

Anyone had any success with the amex offer for £60 back on a £250 spend, track with amex when spending £250 over two stays?

  • James says:

My BA Tier Point status collection is due to expire on December 8th. Did I read that all tier point expirations were being extended by 1 year?

I should be travelling out to Berlin on Dec 18th for a long weekend stay.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a rapid Coronavirus test (1hr ish) on arrival at the airport.

  • Alan says:

Also we are planning to stay at the Radisson Blu, is this a good decision or are the better options in that price range.

  • DJ says:

    Hi,

Marriott bonus points offer related: Do I get the 5000 points on my third stay, or the fourth stay?

    Thanks
