The HfP chat thread – Saturday 21st November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/11/21/the-hfp-chat-thread-saturday-21st-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Bizarre. Picked up 10 amazon gift cards at a Morrison’s Daily, only to find out that they don’t accept Amex! Do the individual stores have control over payment methods?

    • Andrew says:

Morrisons Daily are a franchise so I guess up to the franchisee to control payment methods. Standard stores will all be fine.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Be careful a Morrison’s daily might not be a Morrison’s under this offer.

Was it showing on the map when you click on the offer in the Amex app?

      • BuildTheWall says:

Couldn’t find a list of stores for this offer. Disappointing as the big stores are far away.

  • BuildTheWall says:

Apparently Chase (JPM) has received regulatory approvals to offer financial services in UK, expected early next year.
Some competition for Amex would be welcome.

  • Alan says:

I seem to remember buying melia points during last year’s black friday from amazon in spain

i’ve got the code somewhere, I can’t seem to find it right now though

anyone know what the expiry is?

    • Andrew says:

12 months so you better find it next week and book something!

    • r* says:

You dont need to wait for the amazon cards to come back in stock, you can buy the 1000 pts for like 5 euros directly on the melia site which should reset the 12 month timer.
