The HfP chat thread – Friday 11th December

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Any HFPers off to The Langley this weekend? We’re having our company xmas party (i.e. a nice meal and overnight stay with the missus), mostly paid for by Amex hopefully!

Hi, anybody tried moving points from Iberia to BA recently. Last time (2 years ago) it was doable after much ringing of help line and I thought I had been shown the secret. However having just tried again the Iberia system keeps telling me I have timed out. Is it back on the phone to BA?

    • Yuff says:

Managed it last week, on my wife’s account.
Even with a very friendly Iberia agent could not sort my details out.
Had to reset her Iberia password and use the reset one in the BA website, it eventually worked.

Just in case anyone hasn’t already spotted this… the BA Book With Confidence cut-off for bookings made prior to 3/3/2020 is now (for travel started by) 28/2/2021, effectively making it valid now for all outstanding travel booked prior to 3/3/20.

I really can’t see any sense now to their having two separate policies.

  • Sina says:

for HMRC you need metal, but for Ernie, blue works. Also, the insurance has a gadget element which means your phone is insured, for that alone, I think it’s worth having metal! just saved me £800 on a new phone I lost!

BOOM: Hong Kong bans BA for 2 weeks

    • Anna says:

Sounds like it’s mainly Hong Kong students who are going to suffer because of this though!

  • Alex B says:

My comments aren’t posting, any reason?

    • Alex B says:

      Except very short ones,

    • Andrew says:

Are you using any inappropriate language, say mentioning fund return sites by name?

Or maybe discussing a hotel at a town accessed by Jn3 or Jn4 of the M180? That one caused me so many problems when I was working on an investment property there – our work email filter blocked it every time.

There is a current curve offer of 2.5% [email protected] if used at Samsung. There is also a deal where you get 5% if using Samsung Pay on Samsungs website. If i added my Curve card to Samsung Pay would these offers stack?

    • Tom says:

I tried posting the same comment twice with that word in its normal form and they both went into moderation (first one about 6 hours ago…)

    • Aston100 says:

Yup. Along with some sites that provide that feature when making purchases through them.

    • Nick says:

Beware I had a lot of grief with Samsung taking unauthorised money from my Amex

  • DT says:

Rhys, the photos you shared on the HfP insta of your 747 visit were amazing and very nostalgia inducing! Thanks for sharing, I’m not jealous at all……
