The HfP chat thread – Friday 1st January

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Happy New Year, so long, and thanks for all the fish.

  • BJ says:

Happy New Year, take back control … and don’t forget to complete all necessary customs declarations to move stuff inside our own country.

  • Anna says:

Happy New Year – hopefully by Easter we will see a measurable improvement (and it’s only 13 weeks away!).

    • Harry T says:

At least we have vaccinated more people than the French, who will achieve herd immunity in 2037 🙂

      • Dick Steele says:

        Zut allors!

      • Brian says:

Once you take out the anti vaxxers/5g conspiracy theorists/homeopathic oddballs isn’t there only a very small proportion of the French population to vaccinate? 😂

      • KellyK says:

The usual xenophobic charm of leavers, such nice people @anna @Harry T @ Dick Steele

        • Harry T says:

I voted Remain lol. I just think the French approach to vaccination is embarrassing and ineffective at present.

        • bazza says:

And that is exactly why you lost! you did it to yourselfs!! haha

    • Brian says:

Fingers crossed. The Head of NHS England has said the people on the priority list should be vaccinated by late spring (spring officially ends on June 21st). Hopefully that materialises (ideally quicker of course).

    • SteveD says:

I don’t think what we do is relevant. It’s what your intended destination does that matters.
Since we have stated that we won’t be vaccinating under 50s, vaccination itself won’t eliminate circulation, though it should dramatically reduce deaths.
If your destination hasn’t vaccinated (as much) they may still be reluctant to allow travel, at the very least requiring negative tests. I’m not sure a ‘vax passport’ is going to be a thing.

Happy to be shown the flaw in this argument, as would we all, I imagine.

  • Navara says:

Happy New Year everyone. May the points be plentiful

    • Wally1976 says:

I’ve got plenty of points – need to be able to spend them now 😀.

      Happy new year all

  • Tracey says:

    Happy New Year!
