Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Up to 2,000 free Nectar points (1,250 Avios) just for opening the app

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

An odd Nectar promotion appeared on Wednesday morning in the Nectar app.

When you open it, you may (or may not, most people have it but not all) see this:

Click on it. You get a very short marketing message about the value of registering for weekly Nectar bonus points offers via the app.

Once you’ve done that, you will receive a mystery bonus. I got 400 points but readers have reported bonuses as high as 2,000 Nectar points (1,250 Avios). My wife only got 250, so it varies substantially.

The points post immediately.

Note that if you do not currently have the latest version of the Nectar app on your device, you will be prompted to upgrade before you see your offer.

What are people updating, I haven’t previously updated the App and no updates are showing on Plat Store.

    • Aston100 says:

Your app is probably already up to date. You could trying uninstalling and reinstalling again?

    • AJA says:

Go to the apps listing in your phone settings. Find nectar, click on it and it will take you to the app store where you downloaded the app and then click update. There was a recent update in the last couple of days. Let it download and then open the app and the offer will be there. I got 250 points.

    I got 750 points.

The App also does a random thing every month where after a shop at Sainsbury’s, you’re invited to tap the screen to see if you got a bonus points award. The most I’ve had is 20 Nectar points (and sometimes I get nada) but it’s worth keeping an eye on the App to see if you get offered more.

That’s the “swipe and win game”. You have to activate it in your nectar app settings.

You click on the account icon in the top right hand corner (looks like a head and shoulders). Then click on settings which takes you to a screen. It’s one from the bottom, above animations.

    Nothing for me.
App was already upto date but I uninstalled and reinstalled again just in case – still no joy.
As I commented elsewhere, I have had a nectar card for over 15 years and used to be a regular Sainsburys shopper until a few years ago when I switched to Tesco after moving home. But even then, I still buy a few items from Sainsburys every month and do a petrol fill-up a couple of times a month before Covid.
With the announcement of the BA Avios / Nectar arrangement, I moved back to Sainsburys, but doing online shopping. Have done 4 shops in under 4 weeks, each at over £100 a time, and received 4 sets of offers for around 300 points total.
Doing my 5th shop now and the offers have increased to 500 points or so.

I don’t understand the logic of this.
‘Super Secret Sainsburys Staff’ and other site users have commented that you need to build up your profile with Sainsburys and the offers improve over time. But I’m not a new shopper – I’m just new to online shopping. And anyway, surely you’d want to start with high points offers to attract people and then reduce those offers once they become regular, and not the other way around?

I do wonder if I’m in some kind of control group as per the rumoured group over on Amex who never get any offers?

    • Rob Collins says:

Try it again. I uninstalled and re-installed at lunchtime-didn’t work. After reading the comments on here, I’ve just done it again-200 points.

  • Stuart says:

Another one where I had to update the app first to get the offer.
400 points for me (irregular Sainsburys shopper) and only 200 for the wife (family shopping at Sainsburys goes on her Nectar ac)!

  • Doc says:

Long term customer. Nothing for me:(
App fully updated and even tried uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing.

  • John says:

    Got 1000 points, thanks!

  • A dy says:

    Got 750 nectar points

  • M says:

    Cheeky 1000 points. Thanks!
