The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 2nd March

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Have VS flights in Upper Class to LAS booked for late April. Obviously won’t be going but flight is still operating – & strangely enough tickets still being sold (cargo?).

Anyhow, looking to potentially move these to another date, tickets originally booked Nov 20 and I THINK we get to change dates with the maximum amount possibly be paid in terms of fare difference capped at £350.

Would be good to know if anyone else has a similar scenario to make sure I am reading the T&C’s correctly. It seems obvious to me but others in the group have disputed my reading (& the VS Whatsapp advice….)

    • NKP says:

I believe it’s the case that they will pay the first £350 fare difference, rather than that being a cap on the amount you will have to pay.

    • Blindman says:

You should be able to change the date of the flight.

If your travel is completed before 31st May then there is no fare difference to pay.

If not and the fare difference is more than £350 then you pay the amount over the £350.

Whoops silly me! Probably should have realised it was too good to be true….ho hum!

        Ta

    • Alan says:

      NKP is correct.

I moved our UC flights and had to the pay the excess -£350. Fortunately it was only an additional £50 per ticket.

The same timed flights for September are priced at £6.3k! Which is a little more than we paid originally………

Have anyone use Biogroup for PCR test, it seems they can turn it around within 24 hrs. I have been requested to have RT-PCR test to travel for a valid reason.
Appreciate if anyone can share your experience.

Blacklane – spend £100, get £25 back on Amex gold. Annoyingly a trip (by the hour option) we planned comes up to £97!

  • pauldb says:

Next February our half term starts Feb 19th whereas for many it’s Feb 12th (all driven by a late Easter hence different treatments). BA don’t seem to be on top of this with pricing: normally you’d see very high fares covering any peaks, but I managed to book the Canaries for £70 on the 19th. You can have RAK for £43 or GNB for £37.

Of course I may be damaging pricing for the return!

same boat, i booked LCY-CMF (Chambery) last night at midnight for £60… (one way)… happy with that..

      • Jane says:

just looked too some great prices there Grenoble or Chambery ?? decisions decisions.

        • Matthew says:

Chambery often has delays. You fly in and out the same way and max 6 or 7 gates. Not unusual to see 2-3hrs delay into Chambery at peak times.

          • Jane says:

Useful to know – thanks. the Grenoble times were better for us and more flights per day which will hopefully mean we get our return sorted more easily.

    • Andrew says:

Great, thanks for the info. Always like to avoid the school holidays.

  • Sina says:

Anyone noticed that Ernie changed it’s processing partner to barclaycard? I hope that wouldn’t change the MCC or how curve treats the transactions!

    • Youllnever says:

      Who was it before?

    • FFoxSake says:

I just made a deposit via Blue bendy – definitely changed a bit, it’s first time i’ve ever had to confirm payment via the bendy app.
Transaction still lists as “Business Services” in the bendy Timeline, so should be OK still in the underlying card…

  • Venturelog says:

Emirates miles query – are the points that you earn at the time fixed for 3 years to expire? Regardless of what you earn from flying after the initial flight?
I had a small amount of points that will be expiring EOM. However I have flown in the last 12 months with Emirates. But the portion earnt 3 years ago will expire. Is this correct?

    • Rob says:

      Yes, they will expire.

See you down in the Executive Box at Arsenal! You can also move them to Heathrow Rewards or book easyJet flights.
