British Airways has launched its first flights to Guernsey.

As well as the new British Airways mainline flights announced this morning, BA CityFlyer has also announced some changes.

BA CityFlyer is the stand-alone British Airways business which runs the Embraer fleet from London City Airport. As London City Airport closes for 24 hours over the weekend, the airline uses the aircraft for an ever-changing variety of routes from other UK airports.

Guernsey

This is what was announced today. The airport code for Guernsey is GCI for readers who prefer to search for flights that way.

From London City

From Edinburgh

Faro – launching on 29th May, two flights per week on Saturday and Sunday

  • meta says:

Guernsey is not available yet for cash bookings, although it shows as a destination. Just tried on the app.

    • Rob says:

Weird. It IS there for Avios bookings, at least from City.

      • sloth says:

can only see them up until 12 July?

        • meta says:

Yes, I checked Avios seats after posting and it was there, but only economy available. I guess they are still loading them into the system.

        • Rob says:

Yes, just realised this. It stops in early July for some reason. Service is timetabled to run until 27th September.

          • sloth says:

maybe they are loading month by month so ill keep checking

I perfectly happy with economy from city and on a 2+2

  • Chris says:

Avios flights been loaded already? Struggling to find any

  • Chris says:

oh wait, is EDI – FAO, still only for the two week period announced last week? Can’t see any dates beyond middle June

    • Rob says:

      29 May – 20 June

Rumour is that they will cancel Florence from 20 June if Faro goes well.

      • Harry T says:

@Rob do you reckon they might also cancel the flights from EDI to Palma? I’ve got Avios flights booked from Edinburgh to Florence for 10-16 July and Edinburgh to Palma for 17-24 July, so I have a keen interest in the future of these flights…

  • Genghis says:

Good news re LCY-GCI. Probably my first work trip when things open up and always hated the non-E195 Aurigny flights (i.e. most of them).

    • Yuff says:

What type of work do you do Genghis, is it finance?

      • ankomonkey says:

He lives off points, miles and status…

        • Genghis says:

🙂 It’s possible to feed your family now with avios. How about Barclays next offering a mortgage you can pay off with avios?

          • James says:

if you ebay-out @0.8p minus £1, the money is pure money

          • ankomonkey says:

And of course you have a lifetime supply of Mr Muscle (and Gillette shaving cream?)…

  • Dave says:

Is Guernsey worth a visit for a weekend break?

    • Rob says:

Personally it falls into the ‘how bad can it be vs staying at home?’ category 🙂

If the trade-off is Guernsey vs Porto / Seville / Venice etc then it’s a different discussion, but given the other options in the Common Travel Area I’d be keen.

      • C says:

I went a number of years back, combined with a visit to Alderney, Guernsey, Sark and Herm. While the Trislander from SOU-ACI and ACI-GCI, and the J31 GCI-SOU are no more, overall it was certainly a pleasant enough experience.

    • Yuff says:

Plus Guernsey have been very strict on quarantine over the past 15 months, so not easy to get into unlike Jersey.
I haven’t been home since Feb last year.

    • Genghis says:

I like going. There’s some decent food options. I imagine it’s how little England used to be 40 years ago. I once had a taxi driver complaining about the traffic – there were only three cars in front of her at the lights!

      • tony says:

Guernsey was my first overseas holiday apparently – ex LHR on a BA Viscount. It’s quaint, but prices have shot up over the last decade for food & drink. Used to be a bargain, but felt like London prices on my last visit.

Was very disappointed with the Old Government House Hotel. Admittedly was over a bank holiday weekend but I think Basil Fawlty could have run it more competently. Really enjoyed a stay at La Fregate with the room service breakfast being a highlight, but that was many years back.

        • Genghis says:

I normally stay at the OGH. It’s a little old school for me but I like the breakfast and they’re good to replenish the L’occitaine toiletries twice daily.

          • Yuff says:

The OGH is a great location, the Fregate had a great restaurant many years ago.
I like the OGH, Mrs Yuff and I go there for a drink in the lounge before going out to dinner to somewhere like Christies.
Best friend works for a local investment company over there and is always entertaining clients so knows the best places to eat.

    • Chris Heyes says:

Dave Between Guernsey and Jersey, Guernsey is lots lots better, been a lot, years ago. Jersey is very touristy, Guernsey very laid back quaint, nice walks without the crowds.
But if you have kids/teenagers they would probably prefer Jersey of the two
I look at Jersey as a bit like London to be avoided

  • Aso40 says:

Are the flights EDI-GCI flights economy only? Or would they load club separately and I should be more patient?

Currently only showing economy across all dates.

    • Rob says:

Nothing in BA’s internal notes about it being 1-class. BA has an odd habit of adding Avios flights in Club late with CityFlyer.

  • Hardpack says:

I used to work in guernsey and ba did of course fly there from lgw years ago. Guernsey is more about decent restaurants than a vibrant loud nightlife. Beautiful beaches and loads to explore. Definitely a decent weekend or week destination

  • Ron says:

I’m glad BA starts flying to Guernsey, it’s such beautiful island and only an hour flight away. It’s perfect for family with young children! We’ve booked to go to Hawaii in the summer, but now also booked Guernsey, as America seems more and more unlikely for this summer.
