The HfP chat thread – Sunday 11th July

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Why is that anytime there is a major sporting event in this country, that the tattooed freak Beckham has to attend. This England team doesn’t need his presence, validation or blessing, his time with the England team finished in 2009 and was an utter failure, I guess his need to stay relevant is keenly felt.

    • HH says:

Does it need such a strong reaction? He’s probably still the best known British sports personality internationally.

      • WaynedP says:

@HH, here’s an insight universally useful on social media

Observation 1: Denigrating a personality despite having no reasonable grounds to criticise their actions (which charitably contribute to the Common Good, in fact)

Observation 2: A posting history that suggests that the velocipedist who calls out a keen need to remain relevant doth protest too much

Conclusion: Deny oxygen and move on without a word

        • HH says:

          Duly noted. 😄

        • Rimmingtown says:

          Is your name really Wayne?

          • WaynedP says:

Yup. I envy the well renowned British talent for coming up with clever nommes des plumes, partly because I lack such witty imagination myself. So I don’t bother trying to emulate. Also there’s nothing exciting about myself that warrants concealing.

          • Rimmingtown says:

I think you’ll find its Noms de plume, but given your lack of a witty imagination I understand.

          • WaynedP says:

Touché. And bless you if you thought that I might have freely chosen my HfP handle if it hadn’t already been bestowed on me by my parents. Especially touching in a country that gave the world Wayne and Waynetta 😆

    • Andrew says:

He’s probably just there to watch the match like the other 60k people. And the benefits of being rich and famous is you can get tickets for whatever you want. Better to get used to that fact than be jealous.

      • Crafty says:

Impressed that Tom Cruise completed his full isolation period before attending both Wimbledon and the Euros final.

        • ChrisC says:

He’s been over here filming the latest Mission Impossible for quite some time so isolation not needed.

        • N says:

          Goodwood too apparently!

      • Harrier25 says:

Rimmingtown (aka cyclist) is definitely more suited to Twitter than Head for Points.

    • Bazza says:

      utter failure?
Looks like he made a lot of appearances?
If he is not allowed to watch England football who would you allow to watch England in any sporting event?

  • Tomgold says:

has anyone managed to use the £10 off £25 at amazon in the last few days? it doesn’t seem to be working for me. wondering if it’s been maxxed out

  • Yolo says:

  • Dave1985 says:

@the cyclist. I’m pretty sure Beckham has achieved a lot more than you have. Multiple leagues and a European cup too. Grow up
