Etihad Guest is currently running another of its occasional transfer bonus weekends.

Weekend, this time around, relates to the Middle East weekend so you need to move your points by Saturday evening – 9pm UK time to be precise.

Etihad tends to change the partners who participate in this deal each time it runs. This iteration is good for the points that UK residents are likely to hold.

The transfer bonus runs from 26th to 28th August, ie until Saturday.

Here are the most relevant offers for you:

  • 20% bonus on transfers from American Express Membership Rewards (usually 1:1)
  • 20% bonus on transfers from HSBC Premier (usually 2:1)
  • 20% bonus on transfers from Accor Live Limitless (usually 2:1)
  • 40% bonus on transfers from Marriott Rewards (usually 3:1)

You might think that Marriott is a typo, because the website says “Earn 40% bonus – 1 Etihad Guest mile for every 2 American Express Membership Rewards points”. However, the email sent out by Etihad does seem to confirm that Marriott is 40%, which is decent.

Etihad Guest has relaxed its draconian mileage expiry policy. The previous ‘use them within 24 months or lose them’ policy has gone, thankfully. It has been replaced with a more generous ‘no expiry if you have any account activity within the last 18 months’. This means that you have less to lose, although with Etihad shrinking rapidly you can’t be sure where it will be flying in 2022.

To be honest, unless you have a firm plan to book something on Etihad, none of the bonuses above are worth making a speculative transfer this weekend. Regular Etihad flyers may want to take a serious look at the Marriott option however.

Full details are on the Etihad website here.

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Etihad Guest does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Etihad Guest miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Etihad Guest miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Etihad Guest mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

Wish this was for American Airlines

    • Ziggy says:

You can book American Airlines flights using Etihad miles for fewer miles than American Airlines would charge you (Etihad effectively uses American’s per-devaluation award chart as its American Airlines partner award chart).

  • Benilyn says:

Has anyone ever used this offer? I’m curious of the narrow window they give, if you send within that window you get the bonus, or it needs to be processed on Etihad side within that window to get the bonus?

    • NC says:

I’ve done it before and it worked and gave a bonus even though it processed a couple of days after the window.

  • Hugo says:

Flying with Etihad for the first time this weekend, to be honest am hoping for an empty plane or a cheap upgrade at check-in

  • Zed says:

For the Marriott transfer, am I right in thinking if you transfer 60,000 points, at 3:1, it becomes 20,000 Etihad Guest Miles, plus Marriott gives an extra 5,000 when you transfer 60k.
Then you receive a 40% bonus.

    So 20,000 + 5,000 (Marriott Bonus on 60k) + 10,000 (Etihad 40% bonus) = 35,000? Is that right?

    • will says:

Also keen to get confirmation on this.

      • Rob says:

I would imagine this is how it works, but no real chance of verifying unless someone did a similar past transfer. All EY sees is 25k incoming.

    • Ryan Gill says:

I can confirm that I recently transferred from marriott 60,000 points when there was a 50% bonus on and received 37,500 miles.

  • Imran says:

Does anyone know if Etihad is still flying their First Class Apartments from London?

    • Rhys says:

Unlikely – their A380s are all parked I believe.

    • will says:

The A380’s have been taken off the website too, CEO reported to have said they will not be returning to service with Etihad.

  • will says:

Can anyone make out the redemption values on the Etihad site?

I’m looking at LHR-AUH March 30th Business and can see a quote for 113,599 miles as “Guest Business”.

As I don’t have enough miles presently I cannot select the fare but apparently that includes tax and you can reduce the miles by electing to pay the tax in cash. Can anyone confirm what the actual base fare is if you elect to pay the tax?

  • will says:

Business on Oman Air London to Muscat looks good at 44k miles per way, also on to Male on Oman air only an additional 22k miles per way

  • Paul says:

Is Etihad’s shrinkage likely to continue? Also any chance they’ll return to their unpopular 24 month mileage expiry policy down the line?
