We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

    BA holidays are offering double tier points, now if I book a holiday for 5 nights now in PE and upgrade with avios to Club, will I get 560 tier points.
    LHR to JFK ?

    Just received an email from IHG cancelling stay at new IC in Rome booked for February due to delayed opening.. it said points had been refunded to my account, although stay still showing and no points received… anyone in similar position?

      You might want to check closely, I think IHG has some kind of guarantee on their bookings that means they cant just walk away and are supposed to find you somewhere else equivalent for your booking. Rome can be surprisingly pleasant in February.

        Hotel won’t be open till April. They can’t just refund you points without your consent. Reply to them, but your choices are a)move the stay to another date if that suits you (without extra charge) b) insist on them booking you at the comparable hotel without incurring any additional costs. Check which hotel that might be, possibly Indigo Rome to stay within the same group.

      They have to manually go through them I believe so I’d expect it to happen soon.

      Seems like they claim they aren’t taking points redemptions at all even when they open.

      Use the multi city booking tool. There are some restrictions, for example upgrading with Avios isn’t possible online, you have to call up.

        The problem you might have is that the website will only show 3 classes so you can’t book F out and Y back, for example. Shouldn’t be an issue if F out and J back though.

            Choosing the cabin class(es) shows up after you click through from the initial screen where you input the flight details – Just pick eg Premium Economy on that first screen and the next screen will show Bus and a first too. As Anna says, the system only shows 3 cabin classes, so you can only mix and match PE, Business and First online…..

          Found the answer on FT

          Multicity option then choose Business-Shows that + First

            Only Nectar Collector answered it correctly 20 mins after I had posted i had found it on FT.

    I just received my 15k Virgin points for switching a bank account. The switch only just completed yesterday, and I used a burner account, no DDs. It says you need to set up 2 DDs if you don’t have any, but it doesn’t seem to have been an issue.

    Youngs offering free pint this weekend for their anniversary, currently sitting in a Chelsea one , £6pint saved, every little counts!

      This would just be an extra pint for me. I’ll drink it faster and then spend more over the rest of the evening.

    Can’t log into my Heathrow Rewards account. Can’t reset password (the reset email never arrives) and no response from customer service. Do other people’s accounts still work? Thanks.

      Likewise. I had two accounts, one was OK in resetting the password when the site came back a few weeks back, the other just never receives the reset email and contacting their CS results in no response.

    A friend of mine received an email from BA about their free Amex card offering 20k bonus after £1k spend if he applies using the link in the email. Anyone else get this?

    Just as an fyi, total lockdown and curfew extended in Sri Lanka to 1 Oct.
