Today is the launch of ‘Week of Wonders‘, a week of special deals for members of Marriott Bonvoy.

It is designed to reignite your desire to travel even if that may end up being just a staycation in the short term. There are some good offers and points bonuses coming up.

We will be covering the best opportunities today, Friday and Saturday, but if you really can’t wait, take a look at the ‘Week of Wonders’ homepage here.

First up, because it is time sensitive, is a big discount of Marriott Bonvoy redemptions this month.

Marriott Bonvoy Week of Wonders

Save on Marriott Bonvoy redemptions during October

To kick off ‘Week of Wonders’, there is a simple but effective offer.

Redemptions at 4,000 Marriott Bonvoy hotels will be priced at off-peak rates if you stay by 31st October.

You need to book between today and 14th October. If you have an existing Marriott Bonvoy redemption booked for this month, you may want to cancel and rebook – but check that availability is still there.

You could make a decent saving here. This is the Marriott Bonvoy redemption chart:

At the top end, you could find a Category 8 hotel reduced from 85,000 or even 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to just 70,000 points per night.

Category 1 hotels could be as low as 5,000 points per night.

This offer does not apply to every Marriott Bonvoy hotel, unfortunately. There are over 7,000 in the portfolio of which around 4,000 are taking part in this offer. At the time of writing I don’t know if there will be a list of participating hotels or if it will be trial and error on the website to find them.

Marriott has provided us with the 20 examples of properties which will be included and which they felt would be interesting to HfP readers for a quick break over the next 3-4 weeks:

Don’t forget that Marriott Bonvoy also has ‘fifth night free’

This offer will combine with the standard Marriott Bonvoy offer of ‘fifth night free’ on redemption stays. This will pull down your average cost per night even further.

You may be able to combine with the current Amex cashback offers

If you are targeted, American Express cardholders can opt in to two generous Marriott Bonvoy cashback offers, valid across selected hotels in Europe.

There is an offer for £50 cashback on a £200 cumulative spend across Marriott Bonvoy hotels. These are mainly mid-range properties, although the list also includes the University Arms in Cambridge (reviewed here) and the Sheraton Grand on Park Lane in London (reviewed here).

You will also receive £100 cashback when you spend £400 in selected upscale Marriott Bonvoy hotels across the UK and continental Europe. UK hotels include Turnberry and The Langley. It runs to 31st December 2021.

For clarity, these are two separate Amex offers. You may be targeted for one, both or neither – check your American Express statement page for each Amex card you hold.

Whilst a redemption stay is, of course, free, any spending you do in the hotel and pay for as part of your bill at check-out will qualify towards the cashback.

You can find out more about this discounted redemption offer on the ‘redemption’ section of the Marriott website here.

  • Waddle says:

Do nights on points or certificate stays count towards status? I’m one night away from 50 and requalifying for Platinum, can I reach it on a redemption rather than a cash booking?

  • Meyers says:

Just tried pricing up 2 different weekends in November in Vienna at The Bristol. Not working for me. Pricing up as Standard or Peak. Am I missing summat here?

    • Meyers says:

Sorry…..stay by 31st October!! No can do

    • Ziggy says:

The discounted Reward Night pricing is only valid on stays through to the end of October.

  • James says:

Hi Rob! Do you know how long the purchase offer will run for? I’ve bought the maximum for this year but my OH is going to take advantage of this offer. Only snag is she hasn’t held her MB account for over 30 days (strange t&c). Should this offer run beyond 30 days? Thanks!

  • Harry T says:

This is slightly more disappointing than expected.

    • David says:

Yup ran till the end of November last year

    • YC says:

Agree. It’s handy for those redeeming in October (I saved 15k) or those looking to buy points. I don’t think we will see 55% again this year. The deals are just the normal deals, nothing too special

      • meta says:

They’ll follow up with points sale after this. They will probably do something around Black Friday.

        • Blair says:

Meta remind me, what was the points deal? This redemption deal is beyond disappointing

          • meta says:

I think it was 60% bonus on points purchases and they ran it twice last year.

  • Gothbe says:

I’m 14 nights away from platinum. i have been thinking of “sacrificing” some points at a low end hotel to reach target. The main purpose is free breakfast at some top end stays I’m planning for next year. I don’t particularly want to stay in the hotel and don’t want to be visiting regularly. Would I have to turn up once in person to check in and then maybe check out online?

    • YC says:

Yup that’s right. If ur near Aberdeen, the moxy is the only cat1 hotel in the uk. Great for mattress runs especially with the 5f4. 20k for 5 nights

    • Blair says:

Take out the Amex Marriott card? Surely easier and cheaper? 15 nights credited

    • Harry T says:

If you don’t have the Marriott Bonvoy amex, you can take that out and receive 15 nights quickly. You can even cancel after the nights post, for a pro rata refund. Bit early in the year for mattress runs anyway!

But yeah, you would need to check in in person.

      • Gothbe says:

Already have credit card. Aberdeen is a flight so I need to way up cost of flight, inconvenience + value of 60k points against value of breakfast / lounge access for two over 16 months (assuming I complete by end of October). Cost / value of points say £500

  • Mikeact says:

The offer terms say “Availability is extremely limited while supplies last.” The extremely bit is obviously there by accident.

  • Mikeact says:

Or rather, ‘not there by accident ‘.

    • Blair says:

Yes agreed. But beggars can’t be choosers. We all have to cherish Bonvoy now that our IHG accounts are being closed and we get hauled in shackles before the Treasury Select Committee to account for ourselves.

  • Rachael says:

They are also running stay 4 pay 3 offers in some Marriott’s. Booked Pine Cliff under this offer.
