Today is the launch of ‘Week of Wonders‘, a week of special deals for members of Marriott Bonvoy.

It is designed to reignite your desire to travel even if that may end up being just a staycation in the short term. There are some good offers and points bonuses coming up.

We will be covering the best opportunities today, Friday and Saturday, but if you really can’t wait, take a look at the ‘Week of Wonders’ homepage here.

First up, because it is time sensitive, is a big discount of Marriott Bonvoy redemptions this month.

Marriott Bonvoy Week of Wonders

Save on Marriott Bonvoy redemptions during October

To kick off ‘Week of Wonders’, there is a simple but effective offer.

Redemptions at 4,000 Marriott Bonvoy hotels will be priced at off-peak rates if you stay by 31st October.

You need to book between today and 14th October. If you have an existing Marriott Bonvoy redemption booked for this month, you may want to cancel and rebook – but check that availability is still there.

You could make a decent saving here. This is the Marriott Bonvoy redemption chart:

At the top end, you could find a Category 8 hotel reduced from 85,000 or even 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to just 70,000 points per night.

Category 1 hotels could be as low as 5,000 points per night.

This offer does not apply to every Marriott Bonvoy hotel, unfortunately. There are over 7,000 in the portfolio of which around 4,000 are taking part in this offer. At the time of writing I don’t know if there will be a list of participating hotels or if it will be trial and error on the website to find them.

Marriott has provided us with the 20 examples of properties which will be included and which they felt would be interesting to HfP readers for a quick break over the next 3-4 weeks:

Don’t forget that Marriott Bonvoy also has ‘fifth night free’

This offer will combine with the standard Marriott Bonvoy offer of ‘fifth night free’ on redemption stays. This will pull down your average cost per night even further.

You may be able to combine with the current Amex cashback offers

If you are targeted, American Express cardholders can opt in to two generous Marriott Bonvoy cashback offers, valid across selected hotels in Europe.

There is an offer for £50 cashback on a £200 cumulative spend across Marriott Bonvoy hotels. These are mainly mid-range properties, although the list also includes the University Arms in Cambridge (reviewed here) and the Sheraton Grand on Park Lane in London (reviewed here).

You will also receive £100 cashback when you spend £400 in selected upscale Marriott Bonvoy hotels across the UK and continental Europe. UK hotels include Turnberry and The Langley. It runs to 31st December 2021.

For clarity, these are two separate Amex offers. You may be targeted for one, both or neither – check your American Express statement page for each Amex card you hold.

Whilst a redemption stay is, of course, free, any spending you do in the hotel and pay for as part of your bill at check-out will qualify towards the cashback.

You can find out more about this discounted redemption offer on the ‘redemption’ section of the Marriott website here.

I can recommend Schloss Lieser in Germany, which is an Autograph Collection hotel. Former castle by the river, surrounded by vineyards, amazing food, great walking and cycling around!

  • Nick says:

Thanks for the heads up Rob! Just saved £400 on a suite at Marriott County Hall in London for a weekend just before Christmas which we’d booked only a few days ago. The ‘Week of Wonders’ rate is prepay in full, but you can cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before arrival.

Don’t know if the Amex offer will work as it says payment ‘at checkout’, but we’ll try!

  • LST says:

Great news, saved a ton of points on a 7 night stay at Edition LA. I didn’t get an email from Marriott, so thanks for the heads up Rob.

    • LST says:

Stay is over Xmas, so delighted to be able to get the discount.

      • Harry T says:

The discount on points stays is only for stays until the end of October?

        • Rob says:

          Yes

        • LST says:

I priced it up last week as 570k, it’s 340k today?

          • LST says:

I could be completely wrong and have my numbers all mixed up. It has been known to happen 😂

          • LST says:

It’s for stays through to Jan 17th 2022

          • TGLoyalty says:

That’s for the 25% off rate using rate code QRI

Use your points or certificates for free nights at any of our 7,000+ hotels and resorts worldwide. Book October 7-14 and enjoy stays for up to 33% fewer points at participating hotels through October 31, 2021

          • TGLoyalty says:

Edition Hollywood is Cat 7 so 50/60/70k

7 nights even if it was peak every night 70k would’ve been 420k (1 night free)

  • LS says:

I’ve avoided Marriott since they failed to status match me in their latest promotion, without explaining why

  • Blair says:

I’ve reached my buy limit for 2021 (i forget when!) so will be ineligible for WoW and Black Friday points deals. If a family member bought and gifted to me, does that get around my annual buy limit?

    • TGLoyalty says:

I think the max you can be transferred/gifted per annum is 500k? You need to check the T&Cs

      • Chaz says:

You can definitely get friends and family to gift you up to 100,000 points each – even if purchased simply to send on. Max per year you can receive per year is 500,000.

I do wonder why there is a cap on purchasing at 100,000 as it isn’t exactly hard to find someone else to buy and gift across.

        • TGLoyalty says:

Yeah it’s ridiculously low considering it’s 100k a night at some places.

          • Rob says:

… which may be the reason.

The Hilton cap is too high in my view, letting you receive 500k as a gift.

It’s a thin line. IHG is being sued by some franchisees in the US because they claim IHG is ripping them off by selling points cheaply. The hotel argues (not unreasonably) that they have to accept more redemption bookings than necessary – for which they only get paid $25 or so – because IHG is selling so many points in the market.

          • TGLoyalty says:

Some US based businesses make it part of their business strategy to sue their franchiser

  • KBuffett says:

Does the Marriott Status Year run for the same period for everyone, if so, when is the year end?

If it’s different for everyone, how do I check my year end?

    • TGLoyalty says:

It’s calendar year for everyone. All hotel status are afaik.

  • George K says:

Bit annoying as I’m trying to book an eligible hotel in Athens for next week but says ‘rate not available’ for the 25% discount. Hotel has its own long-stay rate for 20% but would have hoped for a bit extra.

  • Ben says:

Slightly off topic but related to Marriott.
Can anyone advise what happens with Amex cash back offers when you have two at the same time of different values?
I loaded a spend £200 get £50 back for Marriott bonvoy a while ago. Since then I’ve got a new one of spend £400 get £100 back.
I’ll have enough spend to trigger the £400 on my current stay so was wondering which would work if both are loaded simultaneously (useful to know as I’m overseas so don’t want to unnecessarily incur a higher Amex fx fee if for some reason only the lower spend cash back offer would work).
    Thanks!

    • Rob says:

Have you actually looked at the lists of participating hotels? There is no crossover.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Unless OP has spent £400 at the 1 single LHR Sheraton on both lists 😉

      • Ben says:

Oops nope you’re right… I had assumed it was the same for both!
