We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

DP: successfully managed to get a retention bonus today for the BAPP. 10,000 Avios for spending £3,000 in the next 3 months. I’d never had a retention bonus before and I was successful on the app chat function during business hours.

    • Andrew says:

Not quite the same as the no strings attached ones they hand out for the Platinum card – I’m surprised they don’t do this for BAPP

      Result 🙂

Guessing this might have already been mentioned. but has anyone spotted the 3,400,000 Virgin point Recording Studio redemption? Maybe we finally have the answer to what Rob is doing with his Virgin points: HfP Christmas single!

5 days into a 2 week Med cruise and got chatting to a guy today who’s wife is a regular reader on here. So, if you’re on the Sky Princess and recognise this as you, hello! Hope you managed to get some bargains in Barcelona.

Sad afternoon yesterday, a floating body was spotted by staff on the bridge. Identified as a female, had been in the water a long time apparently. We had to wait for the Spanish coastguard to come and retrieve the body. Not what you expect to happen at sea.

  • Jody says:

Not judging by the crews reaction. Captain said it was very unusual.

Guess it depends on where you’re sailing?

    • memesweeper says:

Sad to see.. and yes, I think it is unusual.

On the subject of meeting people I failed to say ‘hello’ to the person struggling to decide between a Chase and an Amex Gold at the hospitality bar at Emirates a few weeks ago… given the venue and payment cards, they have to be from here, right?

I finally saw someone trying to pay with a BAPP.
I’ve never seen anyone ever whip one of those bad boys out before.
The restaurant naturally didn’t accept Amex. Saw him eventually pay with a debit card and I completely sympathised with the tragic look on his face as he did so.

Amateur, not having a Visa/MC backup

        • Lady London says:

Oh dear such a pity he couldn’t subtly stick it into a machine himself and finding the machine accepted it anyway.

That will teach himv to eat at posh restaurants with white tablecloths that present the bill on a plate.

          • Rob says:

Clearly in suburbia. I’d say about 10% of cards I see being used in London Prets are BA.

  • Sam B says:

    Hello everyone,

I need to book a one-way flight from London- Singapore for myself, my wife, and son (<2Yo) in Feb next year.

We have a bunch of Amex 241 vouchers to use up and about 250K Avios (We live in Australia now so don't earn many Avios anymore).

The only option I can see that works and allows us to use the Amex voucher is Premium Economy to SIN (even then there aren't many flights), so 2 questions:

At 77K Avios + 241 voucher +circa 650GBP for the 3 of us, is it a bad/good use of my Avios? Should I just save them for a future biz class flight on a future trip to/ from the UK?

Is it likely BA will release any more biz class seats to SIN for early 2022?

    • BuildBackBetter says:

SQ has added flights to MAN – cash flights could be even cheaper.
