HfP news: new office, new (old) staff

Today is my first day back at work after ten days away, and I’ll be heading somewhere new.

From today, Head for Points is based in the iconic 1 Poultry building, directly above Bank station. Our neighbours include the Bank of England, The Ned, Bloomberg and the Royal Exchange.

Architecture fans will know it as one of the few postmodern buildings in the UK (and one of the youngest listed buildings), whilst food fans will know it for the Coq d’Argent restaurant on the roof.

We spent just under four years in Moor Place at Moorgate, but took advantage of a favourable break clause to leave as soon as covid hit. Rhys and I have spent most of 2021 hot desking, primarily in Victoria, but we wanted our own dedicated office again. We also needed somewhere we could send our online shopping orders ….

We are also delighted to welcome Sinead back from maternity leave. She will oversee the commercial side of the site, effectively becoming the trade ‘face’ of HfP as far as marketing and promotions are concerned.

Rhys – who has done an excellent job in covering for Sinead for nine months, especially as he came into it with no marketing experience – will now go back to focusing on editorial. He will also oversee special projects, including the long promised forum, social media management and events.

The net effect of all this is that I can hopefully do a little less writing (my name has been on 90% of the content published this year) and have a bit more time for strategy and stuff – or checking out the restaurant on the roof, which is included in the Amex Platinum £200 cashback offer ….

Handy for Tesco, is that’s still there (I quit the City in 2014) …

  • Lyn says:

Welcome back Sinead! Hopefully you will still be able to do the odd review?

Congratulations to all of you on the new office and being able to concentrate on your own preferred roles.

    • Rob says:

If anyone wants to offer up luxury holiday accommodation suitable for a small baby for review I’m sure she will be keen!

      • Sinead says:

I’m also up for the odd night away from said baby – 8 hours sleep would be very welcome right now 😉

  • Chas says:

I booked Coq d’Argent just last night to use the Amex Plat offer. My wife’s a bit worried that it will be lacking in atmosphere on a Saturday night when she thinks the City will be dead, but it was one of very please places that had availability for a Saturday night in early Dec.

City pre-covid was very busy at weekends with, ironically, The Ned across the road being a big driver of this. We had Sunday lunch at The Ivy City Garden a couple of months ago and it was full. A lot of Essex-dwellers now come in and drink there rather than go further into the West End.

“Rhys will also oversee special projects, including the long promised forum”

    omg – i thought you’d forgotten 🙂

looking forward to being able track comment replies !

+1! This functionality is long overdue as well as ability to edit/delete comments

      • Rob says:

Won’t be happening for legal reasons.

Hi Rob, genuine questions – agar are those? It seems to be standard functionality on many large and established forums

  • Sinead says:

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome. I’m really excited to be back, especially with the return to travel making things rather busy again. Thanks so much to Rhys for doing such a stellar job over the last 9 months, I’ve got big shoes to fill 🙂

  • Alex Sm says:

What about Anika, is she coming back eventually? Or already moved on?

    • Rob says:

Anika has two kids, 13 months apart, and a husband whose job takes him away from home for up to six months at a time. She is also still in the US. Frankly the last thing she wants at the moment is any sort of job (her words, not mine).

  • pauldb says:

Random thought but on the advertising front have you ever had any interaction with dianomi?

    • Rob says:

Not necessary. The real money is selling ads directly and we are doing that pretty well these days. This pays many multiples of using Adsense or any other third party supplier.

      • Andy says:

Directly sold, content based advertising is so much better for publishers and readers alike!

  • Dubious says:

Congrats on moving to your new HfP home! Looks like a nice place to be located from a travel perspective, especially for LCY, St Pancras and in future, LHR too.
