We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Has anyone entered Malta recently? We have both submitted the EU PLF and received QR codes and obviously have our NHS vaccines certificates.

GOV.UK also mentions a medical declaration form but other sources suggest this is now covered by the medical questions on the PLF and is not required.

Has anyone entered recently and know whether this additional form is required?

Also – any recent diamond experiences at the Hilton?

    • DarrenS says:

We got back last week. We did take both the printed PLF and health declarations, together with the NHS QR codes. All were inspected, which took less than 5 minutes. MIA very quiet both ways. Hilton Diamond – upgraded to a very nice sea view on the 9th Floor. I would give breakfast in the lounge a miss. everything was cold when we went. There is a Diamond area in the main restaurant, which was very welcome at busy times. Afternoon tea is nice if you happen to be around. Cocktail time very popular, but worth it IMHO. Staff great.

Thanks this is really helpful! Which days/times did you go through MLA? There are some really variable reports of wait times – we’re landing at about noon Friday.

Noted on the breakfast – thanks. For cocktail hour – are spirits available?

        • DarrenS says:

We arrived around 1pm Tuesday. There can’t have been many other flights, 3-4 people in immigration queue, cases very quick, taxi drivers waiting by the kiosk. Spirits are available, not self-service, but very attentive staff. One point, be aware that masks are required when not seated and you will be reminded of this if you forget. We flew back the following Tuesday and there we were on the only non-Schengan flight that day with nothing open beyond passport control.

          • ee says:

Perfect – thanks! Hopefully a similar experience when we leave – last time (Feb 2020) passport control was a mess and it’s always difficult to know how much time to leave (I.e. when to leave the lounge!)

          • K says:

We arrived on a Friday lunchtime flight. BA. Immigration was quick. Covid check was slow. Probably 30 mins. They check every document by scanning and zooming into the details. A pure Qr Code scan was not sufficient. They checked the passenger details to make sure it matches passport details. Quite slow

Thanks K – same flight as ours! We’ll try to grab the luggage as soon as possible to join the queue. Would be nice if the CE Orange tags work for once!

Visting Mexico in April, any recommendations on where to base ourselves, flying into Cancun and returning from Mexico City, have lots of IHG points so ideally would like to use them so any recommendations on hotels appreciated

  • MilesOnPoint says:

Iberia have extended Iberia Plus status levels until March 2023. Interesting to see if there will be further extensions from other IAG airlines…albeit BA don’t have fixed membership year unlike Iberia

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

Lady London, just seen your recommendation for Oman. Will take a look now!

  • Blair says:

DP: I spotted the HIX Earls Court for 104,000 IHG points next Saturday night. A bargain compared to the 117,000 being asked for earlier this week. Cash rates start at £413

    • Anna says:

IHG weekend rates are insane at the moment. Hilton is actually much more reasonable, a lot of properties haven’t hiked their rates much in the run-up to Xmas, Doubletree Harrogate is generally 30k points pn, and I’ve got the Chester one for 40k pn for our cancelled Berlin weekend. Cash rates around £200 at both.
I did notice that the IC Park Lane is over £1k per night that weekend, that London must be really special in December!

      • Blair says:

Anna I am pressing ahead with Regent Berlin (for now) mostly because Lufthansa’s rebooking policy always seems to leave me out of pocket.

        • Anna says:

Ah well, I was right to book with easyJet then 🤣. Was looking forward to the Regent though, I love marble and chandeliers!

  • Ale88 says:

Does BAEC track purchases via app?
Having difficulty trying to access the JL website on safari and it redirects me to the JL app installed.

Any iPhone users able to help how to avoid this?

  • Mike says:

I hope he BA IT team are having a working weekend- I am still getting “The Executive Club is temporarily unavailable while we make some planned improvements. We’re working hard to get everything back up and running as soon as possible.”

  • Mattb says:

Looking at Laithwaites wine, and have 20% off on Virgin card, 15% on Airtime and 20 pts on nectar connect. Would these conflict and possibly all fail?

My wife was going to order a few boxes for Xmas with new customer discount too

    • Paul says:

yes, I suspect all will work. I didn’t realise it was on Airtime. I stacked their own £40 off £110(?) (12 bottles) with the amex offer (£25 off £100) spend during the week and that worked well. Might have to do another order with your stack!
