(SOLD OUT) easyJet launches a £695 advent calendar – and it’s probably worth the money

Whilst my children have been badgering me for a cheap chocolate-filled advent calendar from the supermarket, you may want to splash out on something a little more luxurious for yourself.

easyJet may have the answer. Take a look here.

easyJet has launched what it is calling an ‘Advent(ure) Calendar’. There are 12 drawers, each containing special travel treats.

The project will raise funds for Age UK.

Whilst costing £695, easyJet claims that the contents are worth over £1,500. This is potentially true and you could do even better.

You will receive:

  • four pairs of return flights for two including hold luggage – this could be very valuable as you seem to be getting virtually guaranteed availability
  • £45 to spend on easyJet’s onboard bistro
  • £75 of vouchers to spend on tours and excursions via ‘GetYourGuide’
  • A £50 car rental discount voucher

What is the small print on the flight redemptions?

There are very few restrictions, which makes it easier to get real value from this package. There are only three rules worth noting:

  • flights to Dalaman and Sharm el Sheikh are excluded
  • each pair of tickets cannot have a cash value of more than £750 (which gives you a huge amount of leeway, because even peak season easyJet flights rarely get beyond £375 return per person)
  • you cannot split a pairs of flights – each booking must be for two people who travel together (ie a solo traveller cannot have eight free flights)

The only thing that is not clear is if you can use two vouchers on the same flight for a family of four. This would technically break the rules on the buyer or recipient being a traveller on each voucher, although the buyer is ‘using’ the voucher and would be travelling. It also isn’t clear if pairs of flights could be gifted to different people.

All vouchers must be redeemed between 1st December 2021 and 31st December 2022.

The calendar is on sale now via this link where you can also find full terms and conditions. Quantities are described as ‘limited’ which is not surprising, given that 100% of your payment is going to Age UK.

This is the reply i got when i asked if you could use 2 pairs for a family of 4:

Satyam: I would like to inform you the one advent calendar can be used for 2 passengers only

  • Adam says:

3.2 You are responsible for all taxes, insurance and any other expenses, fees and/or costs connected with the purchase of the Calendar and redemption of the Vouchers that are not included in the Purchase Price.

…hmm – wonder if that means taxes on flights (which makes quite a big difference)

    • Rob says:

I saw that but I assumed not, because easyJet doesn’t work that way – they don’t have a reward scheme so they are never fiddling around asking for taxes and charges money. I think it is possibly to do with implied benefit tax charges etc.

    • Adam says:

Confirmed this is not flight taxes

  • Grant says:

186 minute wait time to be connected to a chat agent, if you even manage to get in the queue.

  • Wilson says:

Easyjet confirmed via chat that the Easyjet Plus benefits will not apply for your companion. Deal breaker for me as I would need to pay another £240 for seat selection…

    • Mark1980 says:

How much is it to select a seat?!

    • Tom says:

      Wouldn’t it be more like ~£120? (I.e. 4 x ~£30 for row 1 seats).
This is a good point. I have another 108 minutes and 28 seconds to make my decision according to the chat function.

      • Wilson says:

Allocated Seating – First row per EZJ website is £12.99 – £39.99 (includes speedy boarding). The calendar includes 4 return flights so it’s 8 segments of seat reservation fees.

      • Tom says:

        Ignore me, clearly I can’t count! 😁

        • Tom says:

However, an easyJet plus card holder can give their partner (etc) their own easyJet plus card for £185.

    • Bagoly says:

      6.1.1 each individual flight booking includes a standard seat, a small under seat cabin bag allowance (one bag max size 45 x 36 x 20 cm including any handles or wheels) plus one 23kg hold bag, per passenger per flight;

So while the flight voucher includes a bag in the hold, it does not include a carry on bag to go in the overhead.

And as has been pointed out here previously, trying to cancel Easyjetplus at the end of the year is a nightmare, so if going for the £185 second membership, I recommend using a disposable card (E.g. from Revolut) to pay for it.

  • Leanid says:

    Hi guys,
Is there any clarification if it can be used for family of four?

  • OP says:

It looks like there is a single chat agent dedicated to processing these, so a heads up that this might take a very long time! I’m now chatting to the agent and we seem to be getting there.

    • Tom says:

Hurry up Op, I’m 12th in the queue. 96 minutes away apparently! 😂

    • Paul says:

Goodness. Is there a limited number of these available?

      • Rob says:

Yes, obviously, as easyJet is giving all the money away and effectively losing revenue of 8 peak season seats.

    • Bagoly says:

In contrast to BA’s IT, that’s an admirably reliable, low-tech, way of ensuring that there is no ambiguity about whether you got one, and they don’t sell more than they intended.

    • Alex Sm says:

Because people like yourselves ask too many questions and holding the queue!

  • OP says:

Got there and paid! Good luck to everyone and thank you Rob + team – this is a fantastic deal.

  • Andy says:

i just completed with chat agent. took close to three hours. started in 19th place and did a hamilton.
