Qatar Airways rolls out Diptyque amenity kits

Qatar Airways has upgraded its onboard product significantly with the roll out of Diptyque amenity kits to business and first class passengers. The new kits, which come in three versions, are a big step up from the BRIC and Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio it has used since 2019 and rival Etihad’s luxurious Acqua di Parma kits.

The kits come either in a small square unisex gift box (photo below) or a similarly sized black pleather pouch for men and a white and black clutch for women. Both contain lip balm, body lotion, face cream, eyemask, socks and Diptyque’s Eau Rose or ‘34 Boulevard Saint Germain’ eau de toilette.

For now, Qatar is only guaranteeing the new kits on select routes, including flights to the Americas, Australia, New Zealand and A380 services from London and Paris. That said, Rhys got the new amenity kits on three of four Qatar Airways flights on his trip to Thailand earlier this month so they are clearly being loaded more widely.

He described the kits as ‘seriously impressive’ and one of the best he had ever received, with ‘very generously sized’ creams.

Last year Qatar rolled out Diptyque toiletries in onboard toilets and in lounges so the arrival of the amenity kits completes the rollout.

    Pity the new AerLingus IOM-DUB route doesn’t allow you to book right through to other destinations…

    Plenty of sub £1000 fares with TAP out of DUB to NYC as far as the eye can see.

      I was happy to pay the extra £200 (heavily offset by Avios earned) to avoid a 2nd detour via Lisbon! Decent deal if you live in Dublin.

        How does checked luggage work if you need to add a connection to London? Anyway of getting it checked all the way through?

          I’d say not, as to keep cheap fare you’d be booking two tickets.
          Don’t forget you clear the USA border in Dublin, so I’m not sure how through checked luggage would work if it was allowed. Sure someone here will have done it and answer.

            When you see the CBP agent they scan your BP and show you a photo of your bag,

            There is a video of the pre clearance process on the DUB website.

          I’ve flow LHR-DUB and DUB-SFO on separate tickets, and the agent in Heathrow happily checked my luggage through – despite my very tight connection

    DUB-MIA in J on AA/BA for under £1,200 looks tempting.

      Definitely – I hope these kind of fares continue. LPL-DUB-MIA would be a good option for us.
      I am assuming that a MAN-DUB-MIA fare on one PNR would attract the high UK APD?

        If you depart exUK, you will be paying at least £2000 per person or so, I imagine.

        Agree with Harry, the APD would be less of an issue than the much higher fare.

    On a tangent, looks like Star Alliance (but not Oneworld) have some cheap fares to YVR out of DUB, good availability through most of the year €1390ish.

      I’m assuming it will be that BAEC have reduced the Avios needed to book QR flights. LHR-DOH is now 40,000 Avios in J rather than 57,000

          BA’s IT can’t cope?
          BA’s call centre can’t cope with queries?
          The courier with the documents was forced to check in his bag and BA have lost it?

    The “sweet spot” seems to move from city to city, unfortunately from cities around Europe and not the UK. Some cities for flying west, some for flying east. Dublin and Lisbon seem to be the sweet spot for flying west right now. I recently got business to SJO from Dublin for £1300, and that’s without reducing via Avios. OK, I had to spend the night in Dublin, then a night in LGW (BA fly from LGW to SJO) but well worth it.

      Yep. Booked my November trip to Florida from Dublin. £1273 for Dublin to Tampa via Phili, and returning via Miami to London, with the onward flight to Dublin from London City. I’ll take the last leg but like to take luggage home and travel with just Kindle on that last to and fro. 400TP and probably around 20K Avios too. £100 for the night in Dublin on way out, could avoid but prefer to start relaxed.

    December £1000 fares to Bangkok CDG-Vienna-BKK.

    And just rebooked IHG stays for next month and saved around 15% points (and on longer than three day stays) thanks to yesterdays bits.

    So travel maybe not yet quite so busy as they’d like us to think?

    Maybe BA, after scrapping all the 747s, is able to fill it’s smaller fleet at higher prices?

      How many people want to do two connections (three when you factor in the flight to Paris!) though?!

        As I did from Dubai earlier this month: make a night out in the start point, and get the return booked from Frankfurt direct to Glasgow or Edinburgh! (33 passengers on the FRA-EDI flight two weeks ago)

        Skips Heathrow Hell and if you are further north than Up North you’d be making a connection to your long-haul flight anyway.

      Judging from the tube train to Heathrow, yesterday, it definitely isn’t anywhere near close to being busy

        Not sure about Heathrow specifically but the tube during the week is only at around two thirds of pre pandemic passenger levels during the week, based on the official data (rather than just anecdotal evidence).

        Probably not a bad thing as it was too busy and sometimes hard to even get on a train at peak times pre covid.
