(DEAL DEAD) BE QUICK: Most IHG hotels showing at half price or less for points!

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

I am typing this on Sunday afternoon – it’s not clear how long this deal will last.

EDIT: It died around 8pm on Sunday

Most IHG hotels globally, for all dates (albeit not the very short term), are currently bookable for roughly half – or less – the usual number of points.

The pricing appears to be:

  • Kimpton – 45,000 points
  • Regent / InterContinental – 35,000 points to 45,000 points
  • Hotel Indigo – 30,000 points
  • Crowne Plaza – 25,000 points
  • Holiday Inn / Holiday Inn Express – 20,000 points

I just booked Kimpton Paris and the new Kimpton Mallorca for 45,000 points and InterContinental London for 40,000 points.

The Kimpton Paris, for the date I wanted, was over 100,000 points per night when I looked a week or so ago, with a €660 cash rate.

It isn’t clear if not all hotels are taking part or only certain dates are included. I can’t get the InterContinental Amstel for when I need to be in Amsterdam, for example, but I know others have booked it.

You can even lock in the Maldives etc at hugely discounted rates.

This could be a mistake but it could be an unprecedented flash sale which is due to be announced tomorrow. Mr & Mrs Smith hotels are not included, which leads me to believe that this is a deliberate sale of some sort. Regardless, it is worth making some speculative bookings – remember that all reward nights can be cancelled.

Should you buy points?

Today (Sunday) is the last day to get a 100% bonus if you buy IHG points. You can buy here.

People who have done it say that they are posting immediately. I am not guaranteeing this to you but it is working for others.

With the bonus you’re paying around 0.4p per point so, for example, my Kimpton Paris stay – which is €660 for cash – would need £180-worth of purchased points.

The ‘buy points’ page is here if you choose to risk it.

Anyway, now the deal’s dead we can all see what e-standby upgrade offers we’ve got. I’ve booked The George for the early May bank holiday weekend and am being offered upgrades to all categories of rooms. I’ve gone for the junior suite at £77 pn, cash price of the suite is £705 pn!

    • RJ says:

How do you do that? I can’t see the option on any of my reservations.

      • NorthernLass says:

Should be just underneath your stay dates, if it’s there. If not, try logging out and back in while you’re on that page.

  • TJ says:

Many thanks Rob & the HfP team. Cleared out my 300k stash for some impressive deals. Happy days!

A great find. Trying to book a hotel for Mighty Hoopla weekend in London Next June… not a single hotel less than £200 a night in central london…

HIE in Southwark currently on for £409 for the weekend, just nabbed it’s for 40k points! Not a luxury trip but a massive saving!!!

  • avstar says:

    liquidated 1mn points today !

    IT’S STILL ALIVE!
Offer not dead everywhere. Just checked for 2 nights I need in Miami in Jan and rates at ICs and Kimptons have actually dropped again. IC Doral was originally 65k, then dropped to 45k earlier and is now 38k.

    • Rob says:

38k feels like dynamic pricing, just based off a more generous ‘pence per point’ than usual.

      • NorthernLass says:

Do hotels set these rates – cash prices haven’t gone down? Also other hotels on these dates have now nearly doubled. I booked a backup at Staybridge Suites for 20k pn, now it’s 38k, same as the IC!

        • NorthernLass says:

I originally booked the IC Doral for cash at £238 pn refundable, when it was 65k points. It’s now £250 pn but only 38k points.

        • Rob says:

No, IHG sets all the rates. Hotel has no idea how many points you used.

  • Simon says:

I don’t want to refer people away from this wonderful site, but one interesting i saw on the LL article on this was the screengrabs taken had differently priced offers to the one i saw, i had a quick glance at London and i saw CP Albert Embankment for 25,000 but on the screengrab they posted its 18,750. Is that one of those credit card offers on stays of a certain length or something else?

    • Rob says:

Yes, US IHG credit card holders get 5-4-4 on redemptions so it averages at 18,750 in this case.

  • Nick says:

Gutted I didn’t book it sooner (couldn’t decide where to go and which place to stay), when I did make up mind, price went up, as they say you snooze you lose

  • Mart says:

Many thanks Rob and the team. What a deal. Wouldn’t have had a sniff if it wasn’t for your timely post and dedication to sharing with the HFP community on a Sunday afternoon 🙂
