Save £100 on a £400 Marriott ‘luxury’ hotel booking with a new American Express offer

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

A new Marriott Bonvoy ‘luxury’ offer has appeared on many American Express cards.

You will receive £100 cashback when you spend £400 in selected upscale Marriott Bonvoy hotels across the UK and continental Europe.

It runs to 31st December.

St Regis Venice breakfast

Cumulative spend DOES count.

Oddly, I don’t have this offer on my Marriott Bonvoy American Express card – I only have it on my Platinum card and my wife’s Preferred Rewards Gold. Neither of us have it on our British Airways cards.

UK properties include The Langley, reviewed here, and these London hotels (click for the websites):

You will find participating European hotels in most major cities – there are 45 hotels taking part in total.

There are a lot of great hotels here, including the iconic Venice ones, so you may be able to squeeze in a decent Autumn break. My breakfast photo from St Regis Venice is above!

£400 won’t necessarily get you far at these places but if you have the offer on multiple Amex cards you could split the bill at check-out and trigger multiple bonuses.

If you ARE booking any Marriott properties on this list, do drop a note to our hotel booking partner Emyr Thomas via this page. He can get you added benefits – including free breakfast, a food and drink credit and an upgrade – via the STARS and Luminous programmes runs by Marriott for luxury travel agents. You will pay the same as the flexible rate shown online and you pay at the hotel as usual so there’s nothing to lose.

Don’t forget to register for the new Marriott promotion

The new Bonvoy bonus points promotion runs from 21st September to 15th December.

You MUST register via this link before your stay.

You earn 2,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points per stay, starting wtih your second stay during the offer period.

Note that this is per stay and not per night. There is no limit to the number of times you can earn the bonus, although it is not generous enough to justify changing hotels each night on a longer stay.

Got a Marriott Bonvoy American Express cardYou will an extra 2,000 points for each Marriott Bonvoy brand you stay at during the promotion, starting with your second brand. Subsequent stays at the same brand do not trigger the 2,000 points.

PS. Historically these offers have coincided with a ‘£50 cashback on £200 spend’ offer at mid-market Marriott hotels. There is no sign of this yet.

  • Dave says:

It’s a shame there’s no longer any ‘luxury’ hotels up here in Scotland. I’ve previously used this same offer at Turnberry.
Hopefully the new Edinburgh W will be on the list next year!

  • Stephan says:

Foe those who have been, would you recommend The Langley with kids under 4? Cheers

    • Rob says:

Yes, to the extent it is in a wooded area and there are local authority playgrounds in it IIRC plus a decent park cafe.

No idea what the age limit is for the pool and spa – obviously the outdoor pool isn’t ideal in Autumn. I was in it with my kids when it opened so my son would have been 7-8 at that point.

Whilst the restaurant is quite formal, and so possibly not idea for very young ones, you can (or at least could) eat in the bar or lounge.

    • George K says:

Spent two days there with a 2-year old in between lockdowns. Be aware that there are specific ‘family’ time-slots for the pool, but otherwise the place is a dream.

We were happy to just roam around the immediate area, either hotel grounds, the adjacent Langley Park or Black Park next door.

Restaurants etc were happy to accommodate our kid – never got charged extra for asking things like a bowl of fruit at dinner etc.

      Massive suite upgrade helped too.

    • can says:

Some parts of the hotel is too fragile for little kids and the service may take “too long” if your kid is impatient like mine.

I wouldn’t call it the best kids friendly hotel — like many luxurious hotels perhaps. Grounds are big and woody but also kinda boring.

      • NorthernLass says:

Coming from the damp and chilly north we were dazzled by the flock of green parakeets which live in the grounds! We didn’t have children with us but a picnic by the lake is very pleasant (weather permitting). We were there in the May/June heatwave between lockdowns last year so spent a lot of time outside.

        • Dave says:

The damp chilly North doesn’t deter green parakeets. We have wild flocks of them up here in the West end of Glasgow. Took a double take the first time I saw them!

        • Brian78 says:

Between lockdowns last year? Everything opened in mid July so you must mean 2020?

  • Pangolin says:

It seems that luxury hotels don’t exist in Greece or Portugal, or in fact anywhere east of Berlin 🙁

    • can says:

No it doesn’t mean that. It simply means that autographs etc in Greece do not participate in this

    • TGLoyalty says:

Those countries never participate or Marriott doesn’t feel the need to send them more business

perhaps the way the franchise / management deals are set up.

  • NorthernLass says:

I looked at the Park Tower Knightsbridge to add an extra night to our London weekend next July ( 2 nights at the IC, thanks IHG points “sale”!), but then I saw all the 1 and 2 star reviews on Tripadvisor from this summer 😲

    • George K says:

Golly , I just had a look. I stayed there in 2016 but was given a massive suite (with two entry/exit doors to the corridor!) so was blinded by that. The thing about that hotel is that there’s simply nothing else to it. Looks like a soviet grenade externally, and internally there is just one restaurant/bar, a sad cigar patio and… that’s it!

Certainly on the fringes of Luxury Collection, I’m sure.

      • NorthernLass says:

London prices are crazy – I am wondering if they have racked up even further because of this promotion. May as well pay £300 for an extra night at the IC, not have to move after the 2nd night and still save money!

      • TGLoyalty says:

Don’t even think it has a restaurant now Nusr-et is independent

  • Boss says:

Does this count towards hotel spend, ie drinks and food?

    • Rob says:

Yes, if a guest and paying at check-out. May or may not work if you eat as a non-resident – it depends if the restaurant has a separate merchant account with Amex or not.

  • Chas says:

Nearly got excited, as have a Marriott Berlin reservation 1st weekend of Dec, but it’s only the RC there that is participating.
@Rob – would your recent comment in a thread a forum post a couple of weeks ago about the Marriott Berlin (with a Club room) being your preferred Berlin choice be the hotel I’ve chosen, or was it the RC?

    • Rob says:

I am very positive on Marriott Berlin, having stayed twice, and if you’ve got lounge access I wouldn’t switch to the R-C.

  • Robert says:

I need to book Venice for mine and my wife’s parents Italy trip. Which between the St Regis or JW Marriott do you recommend? I expect 2 or 3 nights should do it before heading along to a Garda/Como resort. Many thanks.

    • Rob says:

We’ve reviewed both, I have personally stayed in both.

They have NOTHING in common, except a high quality level. JW has big rooms and is on a private island in the lagoon, has two pools, Michelin restaurant etc. St Regis has tiny rooms but is just a few seconds walk from St Marks Square.

In Winter, the boat trip from the JW could be nasty I guess. In Summer it’s great.

JW is a no-brainer with kids. For your group, it’s the trade off between space (and indeed cash, at StR is twice the price) and convenience of being on the main island.

      • Robert says:

Thanks Rob, that’s very useful info. Since we need 3 rooms the JW at the lower cost will be best and the fun of the boat trip too! I’ll see what Emyr can do.

  • Jordan D says:

Echoing others, shame other European countries aren’t included. A fair few Luxury Collection properties elsewhere that it would have been handy to have included.
