News in brief:

BA CityFlyer suspends Menorca and Milan

British Airways is tweaking its schedules from London City and has suspended flights to both Milan and Menorca.

BA CityFlyer operated flights to Menorca for over 10 years whilst flights to Milan have operated intermittently for years. This year, services moved from Linate airport to Malpensa, which is further from the city centre.

BA CityFlyer routes vary far more year-to-year than from Heathrow, so we may yet see flights come back to these destinations in the coming years. It would certainly be surprising not to see a return to flights to Milan at some point, given the city’s importance as Italy’s business hub.

Hyatt acquires 30+ hotels in Germany

Hyatt is continuing its on its growth trajectory, particularly in the UK and Europe where it has historically been under-represented.

The company has announced an exclusive agreement with Lindner Hotels AG, a German company, that will see more than 30 hotels in Germany, Belgium and Central Europe join Hyatt brands.

A map of Lindner properties is here, but fundamentally the vast majority of hotels are located in Germany under the Lidner brand itself. The company also operates a handful of hotels under its own ‘me and all’ brand as well:

  • Lindner Hotel Am Ku’damm Berlin
  • Lindner Congress Hotel Cottbus
  • Lindner Airport Hotel Dusseldorf
  • Lindner Congress Hotel Dusseldorf
  • me and all hotel Dusseldorf
  • Lindner Congress Hotel Frankfurt
  • Lindner Hotel & Residence Main Plaza Frankfurt
  • Lindner Hotel & Sports Academy Frankfurt
  • Lindner Hotel Am Michel Hamburg
  • Lindner Park-Hotel Hagenbeck Hamburg
  • Lindner Hotel City Plaza Cologne
  • Lindner Hotel Dom Residence Cologne
  • Lindner Hotel BayArena Leverkusen
  • me and all hotel Mainz
  • Lindner Nurburgring Congress Hotel
  • Lindner Nurburgring Ferienpark
  • Lindner Nurburgring Motorsport Hotel
  • Lindner Parkhotel & Spa Oberstaufen
  • Lindner Hotel & Spa Binshof Speyer
  • Lindner Strand Hotel Windrose Sylt
  • Lindner Hotel & Sporting Club Wiesensee
  • Lindner WTC Hotel & City Lounge Antwerp
  • Lindner Hotel Am Belvedere Vienna
  • Lindner Grand Hotel Beau Rivage Interlaken
  • Lindner Hotel Gallery Central Bratislava
  • Lindner Golf Resort Portals Nous Mallorca
  • Lindner Hotel Prague Castle
  • Lindner Messe Residence Dusseldorf
  • Lindner Rhein Residence im Rheinhof Dusseldorf
  • Lindner Hotel & Residence Main Plaza Frankfurt

The vast majority of the properties are said to join ‘JdV by Hyatt’, “a collection of independent hotels with unique personalities and a true reflection of their locations.”

This is sensible in the short term, given the lack of conformance to brand standards, but it would be nice to see Hyatt pick out some of the more interesting properties (such as the historic Lindner Grand Hotel Beau Rivage Interlaken) for conversion to one of Hyatt’s core brands.

  • His Holyness says:

BACF went up against ITA and lost.

Maybe the even more fake than usual Business Class was a factor?

    • Willy says:

Nothing to do with that. The slots used at LIN were borrowed from air Italy. When they went under the borrowed slots went with them. As mentioned before, BACF is great for LIN pax but def not Malpensa.

      • His Holyness says:

How not? ITA flies to LIN and BACF flies to MXP. They were no longer competitive for the key market. People didn’t book BA.

  • Fraser says:

Being Head for Points, surely the article should cover the implications for anyone who has Lindner Nights points. Will these be converted into Hyatt points? Will they just disappear? Or will the scheme continue without the hotels mentioned, leaving a very small (or zero) list of hotels they can be spent in?

  • Terry Butcher says:

London city to Paris Orly has never returned post-Covid either. The airport was extremely quiet as I passed through on Friday – except for the hectic security operation where they had only one line in use causing people to wait unnecessarily.

  • Mr Sound says:

BA seem to abandoned Menorca altogether. I’ve flown from LGW direct with them for years and looking at next year’s flights there are none. Have they officially announced this? I asked them on Twitter and got a non committal reply about them reviewing the timetables throughout the year.

    • Rob says:

Still waiting for the 2nd half of the Gatwick Summer 2023 schedule to be announced.

  • Joe says:

Has BA also dropped Genoa? I’ve been looking for weeks but there in nothing in 2023 from what I can see. I get an error message saying ‘BA and our partners do not fly this route’.

    • Nick says:

Yes, Genoa has gone completely. I thought VY were starting it but not sure if they actually did in the end.

  • Novice says:

Did you not edit this article 😂

  • Josh says:

Reckon we’ll ever see BACF to LIS? 🧐
