A week ago, British Airways announced a new partnership with Uber.

BA is promising 250 Avios just for registering, so this offer is of interest even if you are only an occasional Uber user.

You couldn’t register when the deal was announced, but iPhone users who downloaded the app update released yesterday CAN now register. It also seems to have activated for Android users in the last day or so.

EDIT: Some people cannot register for the offer. From our comments, we have deduced that you cannot register if your last Uber ride was outside the UK, even if your account is linked to a UK mobile number. If you take an Uber ride in the UK it should appear.

Earn Avios from Uber

How does the Avios / Uber deal work?

The new Uber deal will let you collect 1 Avios for every £1 you spend on travel in the UK via the Uber app.

As well as rides, you will also earn on coach and train tickets booked via the app in the UK.

You do not earn anything for Uber Eats orders.

As a launch bonus, everyone who links their British Airways Executive Club and Uber accounts via the Uber app by 31st December will receive 250 bonus Avios.

How do you register?

iPhone users need the app update released yesterday, version 3.536.10003 (which, I note, is a shocking 361MB – that is a ludicrous 7,500 times bigger than the entire memory of my old 48k ZX Spectrum computer in the mid 1980s!).

Open the app and click ‘Account’ in the bottom right, followed by ‘Settings’. You will see this:

Collect Avios from Uber

Click through and you’ll be taken to a page where you can link your Uber account to your British Airways account.

When you return to Uber, it should now show this:

Link Avios to Uber account

It isn’t clear how long it will take for the 250 Avios for registration to appear, but based on what we have been told it does NOT require you to take a ride before they appear.

    Not working for me.

  • Mike says:

On the App Store it just said “Open”. How do I upgrade the Uber App please?

    • Philondon says:

Just go into settings and see if it is there?

    • meta says:

It’s not and upgrade, it’s an update. Just update the app, but be aware that this might not work. I have an up to date version of the app and have also now done Iphone update, but still nothing. I contacted support here.

  • Paul says:

I seem to have the same issue as many on here, not seeing the option. I use Uber way more abroad than in the U.K., but I use it back and forth to the Airport every other week. That last time was on my return on Saturday. My home is setup as a U.K. address and my work is setup as the airport. Both U.K. addresses. Strange.

  • Iain says:

It here for me either, app is updated, I regularly use overseas, but often in UK as well

  • Sussex Bantam says:

7500 times bigger and yet you still can’t play Jet Set Willy on it. And they call this progress ??

    • Rob says:

Yes, it is a sad state of affairs.

Even after massive compression, most HfP images are still over 100k. (Uncompressed iPhone pics are about 4MB). How people wrote games in 48k is amazing.

      • The Savage Squirrel says:

Elite on the 32k BBC Micro (3D graphics, space combat and an open universe with 8 galaxies) probably stands as one of the most impressive programming feats in history. The famous radar display was bolted on at the end in the last scraps of unused memory.

  • Frank Bongo says:

    Not showing for me

  • TerryTierPoints says:

In Settings, under Rewards, I can only see Aeroplan; not British Airways Executive Club.

  • Can says:

I just updated but I cannot see it. I am not ios16, can it be the reason?

    • meta says:

I’ve just updated to ios 16.1.1. and still not showing. It is showint to my partner who is also now on 16.1.1, but with Iphone SE. I’m Iphone 12. It might be something to do with Iphone versions.

    • Can says:

and player 2 has it in her older phone and older ios.. lucky her!

    • Can says:

Last I used Uber was in France. May be the reason?
