Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

eBay will have another big Black Friday deal – 30 Nectar points (19 Avios) per £1

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

Last year, Nectar and eBay ran a very generous Black Friday offer.

For one hour – between noon and 1pm on Black Friday – you received a crazy 50 Nectar points per £1 you spent.

The offer is coming back this year, but at a lower rate of 30 Nectar points per £1. You can’t complain though.

The only restriction is that you only earn the bonus on the first £300 you spend. Your Nectar earning will be capped at (£300 x 30) 9,000 points which would convert into 5,625 Avios.

If you value an Avios at 1p, you are getting a 18.8% rebate on your spending.

What is the small print?

Very little.

There will be a £10 minimum spend required.

You only earn the bonus on one ITEM.

Only ‘Buy It Now’ items will qualify.

The standard eBay rules on excluded categories applied. Full details of excluded categories are here but in summary, you won’t earn on:

  • Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles (parts and accessories are NOT excluded)
  • Holidays & Travel
  • Property
  • Gift Vouchers & Coupons
  • Baby Feeding: Formula

‘Gift vouchers’ is a key one to note.

ebay Nectar black friday offer

We will post a reminder, and the link to register, on Friday morning. The deal will run from noon to 1pm.

(Don’t leave it too close to 1pm. Some readers had issues last year when, buying at the last minute, eBay decided that they had booked the transaction just after 1pm even though the customer pressed ‘buy’ shortly before.)

You may want to have a think about an upcoming purchase which you could get through eBay next Friday. The ‘sweet spot’ would be an item worth around £300 (a games console?) which is rarely discounted elsewhere. However, this offer is still worth jumping on even if you only want a £10 book or similar.

The eBay home page is here. You can find out more about the Nectar partnership, and link your card, on this special eBay page.

I am still owed around £50 worth of nectar points from last year. So don’t hold out hope. Ebay blame nectar and nectar blame ebay. A myriad of conflicting excuses given as to why the points haven’t been credited. In

-sign up using the £1 final value sale, if targeted by ebay
    -sell £300 “jumper”
    -have your “sister” buy it
    -pay by card
    -collect “jumper”
-get the points like last time

  • Neil Renilson says:

So if I put 4 items in my ebay basket, all of differing prices, and I only get the bonus Avios on one item, which item will it be on , the cheapest ? or one chosen by ebay at random ? or on the value of the whole transaction, as they are all paid for in one payment ?

  • DevonDiamond says:

It worked fine for me last year.

I bought a £250 hoover a week ago from Argos. Have returned it unused and unopened today as it’s dropped in price due to Black Friday and is available brand new from the manufacturer so will aim to buy it during the power hour.

  • Dave says:

What if I buy now but don’t pay untill Friday ?

    • Rob says:

Won’t work – the Nectar points you earn show when you buy and I would expect that number to be baked in.

  • AlanC says:

Last year i bought a Dyson at £299 on their ebay outlet page. Was going to use it but then I saw they were selling on Ebay for around £380 so sold it and made a tidy profit and got the 50 x nectar.

  • Christopher Perkins says:

so if i have bought something on e bay, but not paid for it yet and pay for it in power hour does that count?

    • Rob says:

Someone said they did this last year and it did count. The T&C suggested otherwise however. Nothing to lose, of course.

  • Jasmina says:

No its not counting.I purchaced 2 items with different promo one was showing earned 9000 points, another was showing earned 1500 points but when you go on ebay nectar is only shows 300 bace points for both items without any bonus points counted.accepted offer 2 days earlier but was waiting to be paid during promo hours. And got nothing.Dissaster.
My problem is why durind transaction checkout it was saying 9000 points earned and 1500 points earned and nothing actually shows..
