Your Black Friday 2022 travel deals round-up (Part 1)

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Black Friday is still a few days away but lots of brands have started early this year.

We’ve decided to run an article every couple of days listing deals which are already live rather than swamp you on Friday itself.

Here is the first batch of deals that are bookable now. This is not a definitive list, it is purely deals which we have been contacted about.

Black Friday travel airline flight hotel deals

Expedia: get 30% off selected hotels

Expedia has launched an early Black Friday sale for members of Expedia Rewards (it’s free to sign up.)

You can get up to 30% off hotel rooms until 28th November, for bookings between now and 30th June 2023.

The discount is applied automatically when you sign in. It does not apply to taxes and other fees.

The Expedia Black Friday landing page is showcasing some of the offers available.

Hotels.com: get 30% off or more

Hotels.com has also got its Black Friday deals live. Members will receive 30% or more off at participating hotels.

You need to book by 28th November, and the offer is valid for travel until 30th June 2023.

Terms and conditions apply, including potential minimum night stays and blackout dates.

An example of hotels taking part is available on the Hotels.com Black Friday offer page here.

Booking.com: get at least 30% off

Not to be outdone, Booking.com is also offering 30%+ off on selected hotels.

The offer is valid slightly longer, with a booking period until 1st December. You’ll be pleased to know that stay dates start immediately and include all of 2023.

Booking.com claims you will get a minimum 30% off participating hotels, with 40%+ off at hotels in Asia Pacific. The discount is stated before taxes and charges.

You can find out more on the Black Friday page on Booking.com.

Qatar Airways 787-9 business class bed

Qatar Airways: fare sale and 5,000 Avios for new Privilege Club members

Qatar Airways has launched a number of offers for Black Friday.

First up are a number of reduced fares to the Seychelles, Singapore, Zanzibar and more. Qatar Airways is quoting lead-in prices from £589 in economy and £2,369 in business class. You can travel any time between 1st January and 30th November 2023, although a number of blackout periods apply:

  • Outbound: 31 March 2023 – 8 April 2023, 14 July 2023 – 30 July 2023
  • Inbound: 10 April 2023 – 16 April 2023, 25 August 2023 – 9 September 2023

Over 60 destinations are included, including the Maldives, Australia, New Zealand and more. The full list is included in the terms and conditions on the Qatar Airways site.

There’s also a Qatar Privilege Club offer, for anyone who isn’t already a member. If you sign up using the promo code ‘WC22JOIN’ you’ll get 5,000 Avios with your first flight.

This is about as good as it gets with Qatar Privilege Club sign-up offers. It is well worth doing, particularly now that Qatar Airways Privilege Club uses Avios as its currency as you can transfer Avios back and forth with British Airways as well.

Do we know when Avios held with Qatar Airways expire and if transfers from BA counts as activity to keep them alive

  • Amo says:

The link to the comments in the corresponding email this morning didn’t appear to be present (nothing to click on). Just a heads up Rob and team.

    • Rob says:

We know. We had to send this one manually – the article failed to post on time and so the email wasn’t sent. Sorry.

  • LittleNick says:

I wonder where and when one can find Qatar Business class return for £2369? Not looked extensively but bet this would be hard to find?

  • BJ says:

CX fare I just checked are unchanged from last week.

  • Concerto says:

I don’t know why you still support hotels.com. I am at the very end with them because there is ZERO customer service or technical support. Can’t sign in using the app, no matter how many password resets I’ve done. Reinstalling the app doesn’t work either. So I could just abandon the stupid app and do everything on the website, which miraculously works, but I want to profit from the double stamps promo. Is there any way of getting hold of someone to help with this? The chat function is gruesome and there’s no link anywhere for technical help. If you are lucky enough to find a phone number you end up in a permanent loop because the bot endlessly asks for a confirmation number. It’s so truly awful that I will use my free nights and never use this rubbish again. I think they don’t want any customers, in fact, which is fine with me.

    • Rob says:

In general the readers (and indeed myself) are VERY pro Hotels.com.

      • Luke says:

I used to be too, but I agree with those who said phone customer service is now completely hopeless. Going off them rapidly.

      • Cinimo says:

I am very pro hotels.com, especially for the rewards nights. However, I agree customer service has deteriorated enormously and is now non-existent.

For example, I was recently unable to book a room with rate shown and apply a rewards night to it. Whenever I tried, I got a message that the rate was no longer available and it was now £80 more. Booking without the rewards night worked fine at the original rate. I went round in circles speaking to customer service, supervisors etc. who all claimed that the cheaper rate didn’t exist even though I could show them I could book it without using a rewards night. I just have up in the end and booked for cash at the cheaper rate, and used my reward night somewhere else. But now I always think again about the value of the reward night. Maybe they have a secret blacklist of hotels/rates where it can’t be used or they just have buggy systems. Either way their value is reduced.

      • CarpalTravel says:

I have been pro them for years, often restricting searches to hotels they have listed (always doing my due diligence, making sure the prices aren’t inflated), but I don’t like the direction they are now heading in.

A recent one that is most notable to me is the web page results sorting. I am used to their defaulting to a Recommended (i.e. most profitable for them) sort but now they are overriding the rating to be”Guest rating + our choices”.

It feels less like I am being presented a list of options and rather being guided towards the ones that suit them best. It’s not a good look and I have now started to consider alternatives, which is probably a good thing, for me.

    • Peter says:

The app turned into an intolerable mess with their late-September update, incl. not showing future bookings!
I actually reached someone at their German-speaking CS back then, who assured me they’d be all good in a few days’ time… Well they aren’t.

    • John says:

Make a new account on the app

  • JK says:

Any sense whether BA will have any deals this week? Need to book short-haul LHR-PMI for next year, and it’s already pretty expensive. Wondering whether to bite the bullet and lock in now, or wait to see if they offer anything.

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

I am 99% certain that if BA do have a sale then it will either apply to your route but not your dates or your dates but not your route.

Both have happened to me in the past.
