Your Black Friday 2022 travel deals round-up (Part 1)

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Black Friday is still a few days away but lots of brands have started early this year.

We’ve decided to run an article every couple of days listing deals which are already live rather than swamp you on Friday itself.

Here is the first batch of deals that are bookable now. This is not a definitive list, it is purely deals which we have been contacted about.

Black Friday travel airline flight hotel deals

Expedia: get 30% off selected hotels

Expedia has launched an early Black Friday sale for members of Expedia Rewards (it’s free to sign up.)

You can get up to 30% off hotel rooms until 28th November, for bookings between now and 30th June 2023.

The discount is applied automatically when you sign in. It does not apply to taxes and other fees.

The Expedia Black Friday landing page is showcasing some of the offers available.

Hotels.com: get 30% off or more

Hotels.com has also got its Black Friday deals live. Members will receive 30% or more off at participating hotels.

You need to book by 28th November, and the offer is valid for travel until 30th June 2023.

Terms and conditions apply, including potential minimum night stays and blackout dates.

An example of hotels taking part is available on the Hotels.com Black Friday offer page here.

Booking.com: get at least 30% off

Not to be outdone, Booking.com is also offering 30%+ off on selected hotels.

The offer is valid slightly longer, with a booking period until 1st December. You’ll be pleased to know that stay dates start immediately and include all of 2023.

Booking.com claims you will get a minimum 30% off participating hotels, with 40%+ off at hotels in Asia Pacific. The discount is stated before taxes and charges.

You can find out more on the Black Friday page on Booking.com.

Qatar Airways 787-9 business class bed

Qatar Airways: fare sale and 5,000 Avios for new Privilege Club members

Qatar Airways has launched a number of offers for Black Friday.

First up are a number of reduced fares to the Seychelles, Singapore, Zanzibar and more. Qatar Airways is quoting lead-in prices from £589 in economy and £2,369 in business class. You can travel any time between 1st January and 30th November 2023, although a number of blackout periods apply:

  • Outbound: 31 March 2023 – 8 April 2023, 14 July 2023 – 30 July 2023
  • Inbound: 10 April 2023 – 16 April 2023, 25 August 2023 – 9 September 2023

Over 60 destinations are included, including the Maldives, Australia, New Zealand and more. The full list is included in the terms and conditions on the Qatar Airways site.

There’s also a Qatar Privilege Club offer, for anyone who isn’t already a member. If you sign up using the promo code ‘WC22JOIN’ you’ll get 5,000 Avios with your first flight.

This is about as good as it gets with Qatar Privilege Club sign-up offers. It is well worth doing, particularly now that Qatar Airways Privilege Club uses Avios as its currency as you can transfer Avios back and forth with British Airways as well.

Hotels.com black friday code for double points
When I try and use it it say expired.
is it wrong in the article??
    Thanks

  • Barrel for Scraping says:

Black Friday is one of these septic tank imports we’d be better off without

    • KevinS says:

Yep. Load of rubbish. I’m sure some deals can be found but it’s generally cheaper to buy things you need at other times of the year (based on the research done by Which etc).

  • Dubious says:

Europecar has 30% off for certain countries. Blackout days still apply.

I managed to rebook a rental (that was originally via a third party) at slower rate thanks to this.

    • Roberto says:

Looked around repricing a 23rd to 27th December and the prices have gone up massively since I booked. I appreciate its Xmas but it was when I booked of course , don’t know if the train/bus strikes have changed the situation but prices have doubled in the last few days even taking the 30% black friday deals onboard.

      • Dubious says:

Yeah it only works if your dates work. They have blackouts for the Christmas periods, depending on country and station:
        Black-out 16 – 31 December for the following stations (Scotland): GLAC08, EDIC10, EDIS01, GLAS01, PSLC05, PIKO01, ZTIC01, EDIT01, GLAT01, ABZT01, INVT01
        – Black-out 16 – 26 December for the rest of the stations
        – Lead time condition: 4 days minimum

        • polly says:

Yes, we got one reduced by £60 for this Friday at Bordeaux. So did a re book also. Covers a couple of local lunches. Neat.

          • Dubious says:

You might want to recheck the prices. Now that the Black Friday deal is over, Europcar has launched a member’s promotion at 20-30% off. You need to be logged in to see the rates.

There rates seem to have come down so with the new discount it can work out cheaper than Black Friday.
I just rebooked yet again got even better price than my previous rebooking…
            I think

  • Nigerian Prince says:

    UberOne has 25 off 200 on booking.com

  • Concerto says:

That’s the thing, Rob, I know you are pro hotels.com and so on was I, until I saw how non-existent their help or customer service was. In Italy in October I needed to cancel a long hotel stay, impossible to sign in to my account or reach hotels.com by phone. In the end the hotel let me cancel out of their own goodwill. But for me, counting on goodwill like that is not a sustainable solution going forward, for me anyway.
So, since you like hotels.com so much, surely you’ve got a line on somebody who can sort this out. I can’t sign in on the app, constant “whoops, something has gone wrong. Try again later”. Surely that can’t be that difficult a task to sort for a half decent technical team?

  • Steve in Croydon says:

I wonder if Qatar will pull the 5,000 Avios SUB without notice. That’s what they did a few months ago with their 2,500 SUB when connecting your QPC account to BAEC.

  • Gareth says:

Qatar fares have actually jumped significantly in this sale from some tracking I was doing

    • Aston100 says:

What a surprise… said nobody ever.

QR can do one with their borderline fraudulent sales and promos.

  • ChasP says:

I had an even worse experience with Hotels.com. I arrived to find that the hotel had no record of my booking – despite having prepaid on the Hotels.com website. An hour and a half on the phone got me nowhere including the gem “I cant put you through to the rebooking team as they have run out of hours” at 3 in the afternoon

    • supergraeme says:

I arrived at a fully-booked hotel last year to find that Hotels.com had cancelled my booking the day before for no reason at all. Idiot Hotels.com agent wouldn’t agree to anything despite accepting it was their fault, so I went and booked a place myself. It took weeks of arguing and threats to get them to pay up (and eventually a £200 voucher).

Very much set-up to make you give up.

      • Lady London says:

Section 75 might have helped you for the replacement room cost if you had paid on UK credit card

        • AJA says:

S75 cover is only if you paid the hotel directly. If you paid hotels.com you’ve broken the direct link with the supplier. This is the risk you take when booking via hotels.com, Expedia, Booking.com or any online travel agent. If you do go the OTA route better to book a package including flights or car as then ATOL protection kicks in.
