Your Black Friday 2022 travel deals round-up (Part 1)

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Black Friday is still a few days away but lots of brands have started early this year.

We’ve decided to run an article every couple of days listing deals which are already live rather than swamp you on Friday itself.

Here is the first batch of deals that are bookable now. This is not a definitive list, it is purely deals which we have been contacted about.

Black Friday travel airline flight hotel deals

Expedia: get 30% off selected hotels

Expedia has launched an early Black Friday sale for members of Expedia Rewards (it’s free to sign up.)

You can get up to 30% off hotel rooms until 28th November, for bookings between now and 30th June 2023.

The discount is applied automatically when you sign in. It does not apply to taxes and other fees.

The Expedia Black Friday landing page is showcasing some of the offers available.

Hotels.com: get 30% off or more

Hotels.com has also got its Black Friday deals live. Members will receive 30% or more off at participating hotels.

You need to book by 28th November, and the offer is valid for travel until 30th June 2023.

Terms and conditions apply, including potential minimum night stays and blackout dates.

An example of hotels taking part is available on the Hotels.com Black Friday offer page here.

Booking.com: get at least 30% off

Not to be outdone, Booking.com is also offering 30%+ off on selected hotels.

The offer is valid slightly longer, with a booking period until 1st December. You’ll be pleased to know that stay dates start immediately and include all of 2023.

Booking.com claims you will get a minimum 30% off participating hotels, with 40%+ off at hotels in Asia Pacific. The discount is stated before taxes and charges.

You can find out more on the Black Friday page on Booking.com.

Qatar Airways 787-9 business class bed

Qatar Airways: fare sale and 5,000 Avios for new Privilege Club members

Qatar Airways has launched a number of offers for Black Friday.

First up are a number of reduced fares to the Seychelles, Singapore, Zanzibar and more. Qatar Airways is quoting lead-in prices from £589 in economy and £2,369 in business class. You can travel any time between 1st January and 30th November 2023, although a number of blackout periods apply:

  • Outbound: 31 March 2023 – 8 April 2023, 14 July 2023 – 30 July 2023
  • Inbound: 10 April 2023 – 16 April 2023, 25 August 2023 – 9 September 2023

Over 60 destinations are included, including the Maldives, Australia, New Zealand and more. The full list is included in the terms and conditions on the Qatar Airways site.

There’s also a Qatar Privilege Club offer, for anyone who isn’t already a member. If you sign up using the promo code ‘WC22JOIN’ you’ll get 5,000 Avios with your first flight.

This is about as good as it gets with Qatar Privilege Club sign-up offers. It is well worth doing, particularly now that Qatar Airways Privilege Club uses Avios as its currency as you can transfer Avios back and forth with British Airways as well.

  • BlueThroughCrimp says:

Probably pretty niche, but Via Rail Canada has 25% off for travel between December 1, 2022, and April 14, 2023. Incudes refundable fares.

I’ve booked the trans-Canada train with it.

  • Andrew. says:

Various rebates on LBG cards for Booking dot com, you do have to go through a specific link for it though.

  • Avios we says:

Hi Rob, I am a Barclays prem customer (have prem current account). I haven’t enrolled for avios as yet. Can I apply for the avios Cc and apply for avios on my premier account after my CC app and receive the 100k points? Or do I need to enrol to avios on my orem account before applying for the cc?

    • Rob says:

As long as you do both, you’re fine – but best to do the credit card first in case you get rejected, in which case there is no point turning on Avios Rewards (unless you want it).

  • Zana says:

Similarly bad experience with Hotels.com recently. Pre-paid a hotel booking for Miami six months ago. When I checked in a few weeks ago, reception says “no, you haven’t paid, so you’ll need to pay now in full in order to check-in, as it was meant to be a prepaid cheap rate”. With a long queue behind me, I decided to let them swipe my card and it went through as a payment, not a pre-authorisation.

I then went to my room, checked my Amex statement from six months ago and indeed Hotels.com has charged the full amount to my card already. I then tried to get in touch with Hotels.com via online chat. 45 minutes later of “please wait while we investigate”, customer service says we will need to escalate. Also, please don’t call us, we’ll call you.

I went back down to reception and spent 30 minutes sorting things out with the manager and the hotel reluctantly admitted they made a mistake but blamed Hotels.com for “not transferring the credit”, so they can’t see it in the system.

Hotels.com then sent 6 different non-sensical emails in the next two weeks about how they can’t refund me, obviously not understanding what happened to begin with. I’m not sure that I want to book with Hotels.com again.

    • AJA says:

If you haven’t got the money back and you paid both hotels.com and the hotel via Amex dispute the 2nd charge that you paid to the hotel – let them sort it out.

  • Auryn says:

    Nothing worthwhile yet.

    • Rob says:

It’s not getting a lot better from what I’ve seen so far.

      • Simon L says:

Do we know if BA are going to have a sale this weekend

      • Wanderlust says:

Do you know if Lufthansa/Swiss have anything in the works?

        • Rob says:

Lufty is doing Eco fares with bags and seat for same price as HBO ….

          • Wanderlust says:

And there was me hoping for one of their J/F 241 type discounts… looks like there isn’t going to be anything great this year!

        • Tim says:

Last year they did a First/Business Class offer on 15th December. I’m hoping they do the same this year!

  • Concerto says:

There’s not much happening so far, just a few sarky comments. in fact, the temperature is rising a bit on the Lufthansa board because it has become so awful.

  • ChrisM says:

Has anyone come across any hotel deals where they are offering a bonus on giftcard purchases? We have successfully used these in past years for Fairmont and Four Seasons with a 15% bonus, however they are usually only available for a short window. We could do with some Marriott ones this year.

  • swifty says:

i really just need some cheap flights over to krakow, apparently last year ryanair did bogof, any ideas if they will do the same?

    • Robm says:

We shall see – I’m similar for easyJet. Not holding my breath.

    • Robm says:

RyanAir has launched – buy one, get one half price book by 25/11/22 for travel between 25/11/22 and 15/02/23
