Two interesting Black Friday gift card offers

I said we’d do an extra Black Friday article if anything interesting cropped up and (thanks to readers for the info) there are two interesting gift card deals worth flagging.

The first is actually nothing to do with travel, but is Amex related.

Get £240 of D&D Restaurants gift cards for £150

You may remember, a few weeks ago, that we covered an Amex cashback deal for D&D Restaurants, the ex-Conran Restaurants group.

Don’t think that D&D is just aimed at those living in London. It also has restaurants in Leeds, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham.

The American Express offer means that, if targetted, you get £50 cashback with a £200 purchase on the D&D Restaurants Gift Shopclick here. Restaurant gift vouchers, valid at any UK D&D venue except The Modern Pantry, are available there.

As usual, you need to check the ‘Offers’ section on the statement page online or in the app for each American Express card you hold to see if it is there. If so, click ‘Save to Card’ before making your purchase.

Add 20% to your gift card for Black Friday

As a Black Friday offer, D&D is selling £120 gift cards for £100. This offer runs until 28th November.

This means that two of these will cost you £200 and will come loaded with a total of £240. Factor in the Amex cashback and you will pay just £150 for it.

Many D&D Restaurants are bookable via the Square Meal website, which allows you to double up by earning a slug of Virgin Points at the same time. I explain how this works here – I earned 6,337 Virgin Points when we last had lunch at Coq d’Argent, which is on the roof of the Head for Points office building, although that promotion is no longer available.

The Amex cashback deal is valid until 30th November. The restaurant gift vouchers are valid for one year after purchase.

Accor gift card Black Friday offer

Get a 20% bonus when you buy UK Accor giftcards

The Accor hotel group is running a similar deal, offering a 20% bonus when you buy gift cards.

The gift card site is here.

This is NOT a slam dunk because of the small print:

  • the gift cards can only be used in the UK
  • not all hotels participate – see the online list – although to be fair the vast majority are there
  • gift cards expire after 12 months
  • gift cards can only be used in conjunction with a hotel stay – you can’t redeem them for meals or spa treatments as a non-resident
  • you cannot use gift cards with pre-paid rooms, so you will be booking a more expensive refundable ‘pay on departure’ rate

On the upside:

  • Sofitel Heathrow and Sofitel Gatwick are included
  • using a gift card does not impact the Accor Live Limitless points you earn from your stay, albeit that you don’t earn any points for the card purchase

There is a similar offer for Germany – link in the comments below – and potentially for other countries too if you do a search.

Got the Accor email yesterday and bought 2 vouchers. Just in time to use at Sofitel T5 this morning and again for a stay in January. A bit of faffing with reception as they hadn’t been aware . Now they are!

  • Magic Mike says:

I just found an Orrery booking from 10 years ago, £30 for 3 courses including a Kir Royale…

Just had a look at their website – £66! And the Kir would be extra!

    • JDB says:

You need to book it on Virgin Experiences, use O2 offers on that and you are back to the price of 10 years ago. Smart restaurant and hotel prices around the world have risen much more rapidly than general inflation.
