Last month, British Airways announced a new partnership with Uber.

To get it moving, BA is offering UK residents 250 Avios just for linking your Executive Club and Uber accounts so this offer is of interest even if you are only an occasional Uber user.

The offer of 250 Avios ends on 31st December, so you should get a move on if you haven’t already done it.

Earn Avios from Uber

How does the Avios / Uber deal work?

The new Uber deal lets you collect 1 Avios for every £1 you spend on travel in the UK via the Uber app.

Having used this a few times since it launched, it is shockingly effective. You should have your Avios within 30 minutes of your ride ending.

As well as rides, you will also earn on coach and train tickets booked via the app in the UK.

You do not earn anything for Uber Eats orders.

As a launch bonus, everyone who links their British Airways Executive Club and Uber accounts via the Uber app by 31st December will receive 250 bonus Avios.

How do you register?

Open the Uber app and click ‘Account’ in the bottom right, followed by ‘Settings’. You will see this:

Collect Avios from Uber

Click through and you’ll be taken to a page where you can link your Uber account to your British Airways account.

When you return to Uber, it should now show this:

Link Avios to Uber account

What happens if you DON’T see the registration box?

Uber accounts seem to lock to the country in which the app was last used.

If your last Uber ride was outside the UK, you may not see the registration link. Some people had success by giving the app access to their location settings, allowing it to see that you are in the UK, but this only seems to work for some.

If this is an issue for you, you will probably need to wait until after your next UK Uber ride to link your BA account.

When do the 250 Avios arrive?

We don’t know. No-one seems to have got them so far.

You do NOT need to take a ride to trigger the bonus. Simply linking your British Airways and Uber accounts is enough.

Remember that the sign-up bonus ends on 31st December.

“BA is offering UK residents 250 Avios just for linking your Executive Club and Uber accounts”

My Uber account is linked to an Italian phone number and my BAEC address is currently Italy but I signed up ok, the key bit is this:
“ Uber accounts seem to lock to the country in which the app was last used”

So it seems you can sign up and get the points if Uber has seen you active in the UK for your last trip. When I was in Cairo in February I kept getting marketing emails from Uber Egypt after using them for trip there until I used Uber in a different country and then these stopped.

One tip that might work if you’re in the UK now but don’t use Uber in the UK is do a dummy booking and go as far as the payment page but don’t go any further. I know in past versions of the app that was enough to switch your last active country. If there’s no Uber in your area try changing your start point to somewhere you know Uber operates (e.g. LHR).

When you take a ride using Uber UK the points post almost instantly (as does Lyft in the US when linked to Hilton Honors, so when in the US I tend to use Lyft for the Hilton points) but using Uber in other countries does not post

Thanks! Mine was ‘stuck’ with Istanbul Airport as my pickup point (I didn’t book a ride; was just experimenting when I was out there). With your suggestion, we’re now in London!

    • Chrisasaurus says:

This seems to be common – Deliveroo spam the hell out of me in French nowadays for a similar reason…

  • Martyn Ford says:

Uber to T5, avios posted by the time I was sat waiting for first wing to open.

  • AllanJ says:

Avíos don’t seem to be awarded when ride passed to a “local partner” when I travel in Glasgow city they post fine, but not in South Lanarkshire where they pass the booking to a local company.

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

On your card statement who takes your payment is it Uber or the local company? Does the final amount correctly display in the Uber app?

I didn’t know they had partner firms in the UK in areas they don’t serve.

      • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

South of Stockport, in northern Cheshire your Uber is likely to be provided by a local partner. So it’s not just limited to the wilds.

        • Brian W says:

What exactly are the Wilds Blair? Be helpful if you could give some substance to this.

      • AllanJ says:

Billed by Uber and paid through my account but no Avios (yet – trip on Dec 24th). Despite being out here in the “wilds!! “

  • Andrew J says:

Anyone got the 250 yet? My transaction Avios post within minutes of completing a journey but not had the signup bonus yet.

    • DaveP says:

Nothing so far and no indication of when they might arrive – if they ever do!

      • John says:

Seem to remember that buried in the conditions of the offer is a requirement that the app remains installed until after closing date.

So the 250 aren’t actually supposed to be available until after Dec 31. Would imagine they’ll post for everyone sometime next week.

    • Al Mackin says:

Per trip Avios posted quickly, not had the 250 yet. Won’t hold my breath based on the issues I had connecting Uber to BA in the first place.

    • Joan says:

I’ve not had my 250 points yet either

    • vol says:

It was the level of data sharing between Uber and BA that put me off 😳

Maybe other companies also do this and are less transparent with it, but it really got me thinking about who I am giving my data to.

Now, if the offer was 250,000 Avios – I might look at things a little differently 😄

  • The Paw 🐾 says:

Rob et al- thanks for the reminder. Signed up as per the directions in this post and received an email from BA confirming the link between BAEC and Uber. However, neither the Rewards Page in the Uber app nor the email mention 250 bonus avios. Has anyone else seen the 250 points offer in the Uber app?

I hope I get the bonus avios for the linkage, but I will not be sending a bunch of emails/messages to chase up 250 avios…..

  • Mouse says:

It’s not free, you’re paying with your personal information

    • Alex Sm says:

It’s ok, there is no such thing as personal information in the 21st century

  • Bevflys says:

I have just read that the 250 points will be added in the new year. You will need to link your British Airways Executive Club and Uber accounts and stay linked until 31 December 2022 to receive 250 bonus Avios. Avios will be credited up to 30 days after the promotion ends (31st December 2022 at 23:59)

  • Erico1875 says:

Just booked EDI to NCL via UBER app. Lumo trains and can confirm its same price as booking direct with Lumo, so the 10% credit is a genuine saving
