  Does anyone know if I do the ‘Customise your trip’ and add multiple flights and hotels, does it count as a holiday for double tier points etc? Can’t see any additional discount…

    Unlikely as doesn’t appear to be booked via BA Hols for ATOL etc purposes.

    DP – not to contradict Rob but my West Coast trip from Oct22 was a ‘Customise flights & hotel booking’, not specifically via BA Holidays. I got the Double Tier points through 10 days after the return flight home.

  I booked a club flight+car package to the Canaries (£75 pp deposit) and the balance is due only 4 weeks before departure 👍

  Exeter is Ability hotels (Hilton Liverpool, Dunblane, Syon Park) bought just before Covid. Some of their properties, like Dunblane, have huge losses. I wouldn’t rule out them handing over a few more to Suella.

    Exeter Hampton is owned by Propiteer Hotels who also own Peterborough HGI which will open soon.

  Is there a way to find out if a hotel is housing asylum seekers? The Lincoln Plaza, Curio hotel near Canary Wharf never reopened after covid and kept having its reopening date changing until they finally kicked it into 2024 months ago. Problem is when these hotels are being used by the government the usual facilities aren’t open so it’s just the bare minimum of staffing (I’m not even sure if they get any cleaning). I imagine all hotels being used by the government will need a full refurb before being suitable to return to regular use as maintenance tasks will be ignored.

  Yes it’s a bit of a disaster, the rooms have the usage of years. They’re also not cleaned daily, which of course keeps the wear and tear down. The beds can be unusable. I find it all a bit penny wise on the part of the owners, delaying the inevitable. HGI Snowdonia was a surprise considering the high standard and newness of the property, though I found the whole hotel project a surprise.
  I don’t think Lincoln Plaza is finished.

    The Lincoln Plaza was definitely open pre-COVID. The last time I stayed there was December 2019 with a few bookings in 2020 which were cancelled. I think it was completed, although of course I don’t know if some of the rooms were still being fitted out. The leisure facilities opened late but they were open a few months after the rest of the hotel. There was also a residential part to this building and people who lived in these flats also had access to the gym and pool so I wonder if it’s still open for them?

  Re Exeter, there are also two other “branded” hotels in the city centre – both Mercures. The Southgate has a pool.

  There is a Holiday Inn Express as well.

    The two I listed are new though, and apart from Sheffield I tend to be very wary of Mercure!

    Mercure isn’t really a brand in the mainstream sense of the word and especially the case in Exeter.

    Hampton is a loss I used that hotel a lot

      Fair point, Mercure hotels are all over the place. Some are good like the Mercure Southgate in Exeter. Some are dreadful (looking at you, Salisbury, Winchester).
