IHG One Rewards has announced a new global promotion following a fallow few weeks.

You need to register here. It isn’t ludicrously generous but it is simple and straightforward.

IHG One Rewards is the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo among other brands.

How does IHG’s new bonus points promotion work?

The offer runs from 9th February to 14th April.

You must register in advance via this link. Registration is now open.

What will you earn?

It’s simple:

IHG One Rewards Spring bonus points promotion

You will receive 2,000 bonus points for every two cash nights.

Nights do not need to be consecutive.

Reward stays do not count.

Existing bookings DO count so there is no need to rebook anything.  Only one room per stay counts towards the offer, so if you are booking multiple rooms you should put each in a different name.

What is the bonus worth?

The standard earning rate in IHG One Rewards is 10 points per US$1 (81p) excluding taxes.  I value an IHG One Rewards point at 0.4p although you can often do better, which means your base return is 4p per 81p spent, ie 5%

Of course, most HfP readers will have some sort of IHG One Rewards status.  This comes with a status bonus (applies to base points only):

  • 20% bonus for Silver Elite
  • 40% bonus for Gold Elite
  • 60% bonus for Platinum Elite
  • 100% bonus for Diamond Elite

Under this offer, and assuming you do an exact multiple of two nights, you get an extra 1,000 points (£4) per night.

This means that the offer is heavily geared towards people doing low value stays at, say, Holiday Inn Express-style hotels. There isn’t much here for anyone planning a week at InterContinental Maldives.

Conclusion

Bonus points worth £4 per night are nothing to get hugely excited about, except on low cost stays, but# you should definitely register if you will be doing any IHG stays this Spring.

If you’re planning some heavy spending before 30th April, you may be better off with Hilton’s current offer. This is worth double base points on all spending – so ideal for expensive hotels – plus an extra 1,000 points for every different brand you visit. Our article on that is here and you can register here.

Radisson, Marriott, Accor and Hyatt are not offering any global promotion at present.

Click here to register for IHG’s new bonus points promotion.  It kicks in for stays from 9th February but you can register today.

  • Dominic says:

Annoying that Marriott has an insane offer for some (double elite night credits + 1000 points per night), whilst currently doing nothing global. 50 nights with them from me at the start of this year…

    • Rob says:

That offer is open to everyone but only from 7th February.

      • Dominic says:

Hmm, tried the link that people had for it and says that I am not eligible; similar comments on LL suggesting it is targeted?

        • Rob says:

No, Marriott has sent an official press release today.

          • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

They did last time too and still some were excluded

          • Rob says:

I was excluded once – quick call got me added.

          • Dominic says:

Thanks, Rob – fingers crossed… would help with Titanium and boosting the lifetime nights! We shall see.

          • Dominic says:

An update… the offer shows when I login, but says it’s a mistake when I click to register. Contacted Marriott.

      • bafan says:

If I’m staying from 6-9 in a Marriott, would my last two nights apply?

  • DaveJ says:

“Of course, most HfP readers will have some sort of IHG One Rewards status”

    Of course!

    • Rob says:

We did a reader survey last year, we know what % of readers are active in each major programme.

    • S says:

Yes, we all got it in the mad status challenge offer from last year!

  • Ross says:

We stayed at the Kimpton Alton last summer and liked it. Location was great for us, staff were a mixed bag, restaurant was good if you like Filipino, rooms were nice but overall the hotel didn’t feel as premium as I have seen at other Kimpton’s.

My main recommendation for San Fran is to hire ebikes and explore. We went all over using the excellent cycle lanes. Can even cycle to Sausalito.

  • Dirtyneedlebluesky says:

Offer now shows via the app but wants a mandatory promotional code! Have I missed something?

  • Peter says:

Tried to register for IHG offer. But it asks for a promo code. It has the offer on the IHG app, still wants promotion code. Sadly I have no idea what the code is
