Bristol Airport lounges to be managed by Manchester Airports Group

As we covered a few weeks ago, there are changes afoot for users of Bristol Airport.

We had heard that the Aspire lounge (reviewed here) was withdrawing from Priority Pass when it reopened following a refurbishment.

It seems that there is more to it than this.

Bristol Airport

The operation of the lounges at Bristol Airport is being taken over by Manchester Airports Group, via its CAVU subsidiary.

From 1st May, the existing Aspire and AspirePlus lounges at the airport will switch to:

  • an Escape lounge (mass market)
  • a 1903 lounge (premium)

The airport website has sample food and drink menus for the new lounges and they look surprisingly good, especially in 1903.

You can find out more on the airport website here.

The Priority Pass website now confirms that there will be no access from 30th April. We understand that the airport has agreed a contract with On The Beach which is presumably more lucrative and will take up much of its capacity.

It had been largely impossible to get into the Aspire Lounge in Bristol via PP/LoungeKey anyway without an advance booking (which I never figured out how to do). I managed to negotiate my way in once or twice recently, but othertise was refused entry because it was too busy.

Thankfully the sentence is not death.

    Morning
Any suggestions for an IHG weekend break in the UK.
SHMBO prefers the coast. But we have done Bournemouth.
    Thanks

Edinburgh? Really enjoyed my stay in the IC there – got a very warm welcome as a Diamond and Ambassador, with more free drinks and snacks in the room than I could shake a stick at. If the weather permits, you’re in easy reach of the coast, too.

Indigo Bath is the first thing that comes to mind. Indigo Durham, both Stratford-upon-Avon properties would be on the shortlist, and you do indeed have options in Edinburgh. Kimptons Manchester and Glasgow seem to get mixed reviews.

      • The real Swiss Tony says:

Yes the Kimpton in Glasgow is a bit meh. Last time I was there still some bars closed from COVID days, breakfast was a buffet which didn’t feel very high end, service patchy. Save your money and stay down the hill in the Indigo. The Voco at Central Station also looks nice – and again if the weather behaves you can jump on a train either to Loch Lomond or the coast easily enough.

    • Peter K says:

Crowne Plaza Harrogate? The hotel is okay, but there’s some nice eating places locally and to visit around about.

    • AL says:

Blythswood Square in Glasgow is my favourite IHG property by a country mile. A warm welcome, friendly people, excellent service and polished accommodations. And it’s not too far from the delights of Ayr… or Loch Lomond.

  • Confun says:

It’s not that the lounge is leaving priority pass but has so many advance bookings through on the beach and therefore will be at capacity. PP holders can’t book in advance so just walk ups. Thereby making it next to impossible to get in.
At least that’s what the lounge staff said last week

  • Colin MacKinnon says:

Off to Dundee next week. IHG prices there now approaching pre-Covid levels – £60 a night at the Indigo.

But the HI just along the road near Perth is almost £250!

  • Colin_Thames says:

How about DragonPass? Will that be accepted? They have prebooking at the present Aspire lounge. Though rather confusingly they show photos of the AspirePlus entrance mixed in with the standard Aspire photos.

  • BRSWater says:

The Escape Lounge drinks menu proudly offers ‘Draught Still Water’ as an option. Is that a Bristolian term for ‘tap’?

  • Andy in Cheshire says:

The discount I have found for a stay at the HI at Heathrow in May is £4.

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

I’ve repriced a couple of my stays and the savings are indeed marginal when comparing these rates against an IHG rate or a 5 for 4 night Kimpton offer via Emyr but then again I made my bookings months ago.

Also I’m still not biting on non refundable rates unless it’s a very close in booking.
