bmi Diamond Club and bmi credit cards

bmi Diamond Club closed when British Airways acquired bmi British Midland. It lived on via the bmi Diamond Club credit cards. Whilst no longer available, existing cardholders were allowed to keep them and continued to earn Avios points at a rate far higher than the official British Airways credit cards!

Amex upgrading Gold customers to Preferred Rewards Gold – a good deal?

Reader Kim got in touch to ask my advice on a letter she received from American Express.  She has a Gold card  – the old style one, no longer available to new customer.  This is different from the ‘Preferred Rewards Gold‘ which has been the […]

BMI and Virgin partnership to end 31st August

We finally have a date.  31st August is the last day for Virgin Atlantic Flying Club members to redeem or earn Virgin miles on BMI flights. I assume this is reciprocal, so that 31st August will also be the last day to redeem BMI miles for […]

Five Star Alliance airlines who will match your BMI status

I was very surprised, when BA’s takeover of BMI was completed, that there was not a formal status match announced by the Star Alliance airlines.  After all, because of BMI’s exceedingly generous Diamond Club programme, heavy frequent fliers from all over the world had been […]

BMI to BA miles transfers – cometh the day ….

… cometh the surprise. July 3rd is the big day, the day that BA promised that we would be able to transfer BMI Diamond Club miles into British Airways Executive Club Avios, and vice versa. Surprise No. 1 is that the tool launched a day […]

Preparing for the BMI to BA miles transfer

On July 3rd, if all goes to plan, BA will launch the tool to allow you to transfer your BMI Diamond Club miles across into BAEC Avios.  It will also allow you to transfer in the other direction, which will offer some very interesting opportunities […]

Now you see it …

In my BMI piece on Friday, I wrote this: One other interesting titbit has appeared on the BMI website, but was not in the newsletter: “Please note, we are implementing a “status freeze”, which means that until further notice no Diamond Club members will be […]

The BMI to BA integration continues

BMI Diamond Club members received an e-mail yesterday confirming what most people already knew – that holders of Lifetime Gold status under BMI were getting nothing special from BA, that BMI gold card-holder upgrade vouchers are no longer valid (even on flights which still have […]

New BMI award chart published

A new partner award chart has quietly appeared on the BMI website. Now, this is odd.  Remember that from 3rd July, Avios and Diamond Club miles will be interchangeable.   What is the point, then, of having different redemption levels for certain zones?  Tokyo is 200k […]

Bits and pieces for Monday 11th

BA has launched a 30% bonus for buying Avios running to 2nd August.  The maximum 31,000 Avios will cost you £399.  This is, however, still more expensive than the current offer for buying BMI miles that I wrote about recently and which runs to 30th […]

New BAA WorldPoints sign-up bonus

If you are not a member of the BAA WorldPoints frequent shopping scheme, there are currently two decent bonuses running.  If you are a member, you could sign up another family member as long as they have a British Airways Executive Club account to transfer the points. […]

I’ve launched a new credit cards update page

The eagle eyed will have noticed a new page at the top of the blog called ‘Credit Cards Update‘. There are a lot of good UK credit cards available which offer benefits in various airline and hotel loyalty schemes, but there is no single, regularly […]

Earning Avios from car rentals

(EDIT:  This post was updated in October 2012, click here to be taken to the new version.) For US frequent travellers, car rental is part of their regular travel routines.  It is less common in Europe, where you are more likely to fly to your […]

Hotel arbitrage opportunities via BMI Diamond Club

In yesterdays post, I highlighted an arbitrage from BAA WorldPoints into BMI Diamond Club.  Today, I want to highlight a few ways to use BMI Diamond Club to earn more miles for a hotel stay than you would via British Airways Executive Club.  Since BMI […]

BAA WorldPoints arbitrage opportunity

The forthcoming potential to merge Avios and BMI Diamond Club miles from 3rd July has thrown up some interesting arbitrage opportunities.  One is the conversion rate for BAA WorldPoints, the frequent shopper scheme at BAA’s airports (mainly Heathrow, Glasgow and Southampton). You earn 1 point per £1 spent […]
