Starwood Preferred Guest (Sheraton, Westin)

Starwood Preferred Guest is the loyalty scheme for Westin, Sheraton, aloft, Le Meridien and St Regis hotels amongst others.  It merged with Marriott Rewards in August 2018.  You earn points which can be used for free nights or transferred into frequent flyer miles including Avios points.

I published an extensive two-part review of Starwood Preferred Guest which can be found here and here. The latest promotions can be found on our 'Hotel Promos' page.

The new name for Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest will be ….

The new name for Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest will be …. …. Marriott Bonvoy, it seems.  Which is a bit odd. The name is, of course, a play on ‘bon voyage’.  Whilst there has been no official announcement, if you do a Google […]

What are the best hotel promos for November?

Welcome to our regular round-up of the best hotel promotions currently running.  This has run slightly later than usual this month, but it does not make major difference as most of the offers featured continue into December. All of the information in this article can […]

What are the best Star Alliance credit cards for UK residents?

I wanted to take a look another look what is out there in the way of UK Star Alliance credit cards, since access to earning via a credit or charge card is often a key factor in choosing a programme. The merger of Marriott Rewards and […]

The Marriott MegaBonus adds two new targets to spice it up

Marriott Rewards (and Starwood Preferred Guest, since they are technically the same programme now) are currently running their first ‘bonus points’ promotion since their 18th August merger. You can register here. The company has recently added a new twist to the promotion and finally launched its […]

Review: Why The Ritz-Carlton Al Hamra Beach in Ras Al Khaimah is an exceptional Marriott Rewards redemption (Part 1)

This is my review of The Ritz-Carlton Al Hamra Beach hotel resort in Ras Al Khaimah. Long term readers may remember that I visited The Ritz-Carlton’s desert resort in Ras Al Khaimah, Al Wadi, last year and reviewed it here.  If you are looking for […]

Review: Why The Ritz-Carlton Al Hamra Beach in Ras Al Khaimah is an exceptional Marriott Rewards redemption (Part 2)

This is Part 2 of my review of The Ritz-Carlton Al Hamra Beach Ras Al Khaimah hotel resort.  You can find Part 1 of our Al Hamra Beach review here. The next picture shows the view from our villa looking right.  As the resort is […]

The Marriott Daily Win game now lets you win daily!

A few days ago, after an unexpected delay, Marriott Rewards launched its ‘daily play’ game ’29 Ways to Stay’. Click here to play. The good news is that daily play now means daily win. There are 2 MILLION prizes to be won, although most are […]

A few thoughts about the St Regis New York hotel and my $2,800 suite

This is my review of the St Regis New York hotel. Except …. it isn’t.  Three weeks ago I wrote a popular article about how I tried to maximise the $50 per day ‘destination fee’ at St Regis New York by incurring as many qualifying […]

Marriott Rewards finally launches its new online game

(EDIT:  There is some confusion about how this works.  It appears that you can only win an instant prize ONCE, irrespective of how many days you play.  This makes no sense, as there are 2 million prizes to be won, but this is how it […]

My lunch with Clare Smyth and some HFP readers at Core

A quick ‘hi’ to the HFP readers I met at the ‘Core by Clare Smyth’ Marriott Rewards lunch. This was the definition of a ‘money can’t buy’ event – except you could buy it from 30,000 Marriott Rewards points, which is the sign up bonus […]

Has ‘£5 back on a £20 Amazon purchase’ appeared on your American Express accounts?

American Express and Amazon have launched another of their occasional offers.  And it is a generous one. If you are targeted, you will receive £5 cashback on your next £20+ purchase on amazon.co.uk made with your American Express card. To see if you are targeted, […]

New Marriott Moments O2 concerts launched

Marriott Rewards has launched some new concert tickets for their suite at the O2 Arena in Greenwich. The catered box at the O2 is not a bad place to see a concert, as my review here shows. The food and drink on offer is excellent, albeit […]

What are the best hotel promos for October?

Welcome to our regular round-up of the best hotel promotions currently running.  We didn’t run this feature during September as all of the main chains were switching their offers during the month, but now we have a clear run where you can plan more easily. […]

Why transferring hotel points to a friend is good (but airline miles are bad)

Most frequent flyer schemes allow you to pay to transfer miles to a friend.  It is usually a terrible deal.  The price is often only modestly cheaper than buying miles outright but no new miles are being created – you are paying a high fee simply for […]
