Did you inadvertently select an option that requires more avios? Try doing a dummy booking for the same flight and have a look at all the options.
You should also be able to see the exact amount of avios you paid on the email confirmation.
*Also – you can get your 50% avios back via Twitter. Takes a few days but definitely less stressful than trying to get through on the phone!
*Also, also – was 300,000 avios just for the return leg, for 2 people? That sounds an awful lot?
