After a very stressful few weeks, just completed on my new home – happy days!

I have an electric car – will likely use the granny charger for now – what is the general consensus these days for best energy provider? Any tips welcomed.

Also any other cost cutting/points related advice for general new home bits welcomed! Thanks in advance.

Like you are planning we use the granny cable to charge and that will achieve about 10 miles per hour of charging. If you do any distance on a daily basis the usual EV tariffs which offer 4-5 very cheap hours overnight may not be enough for you. We are with EDF. They are one of the few providers who offer eco 20/20 which gives you 10 hours of half price electricity overnight and all weekend. It is not a tariff and they do not advertise it. you have to contact them and ask for it. You can then select a fixed price tariff if you wish – which can reduce the costs even more. At the moment EDF are also doing a Sunday saver offer which can gives you up to 16 hours of free electricity on a Sunday. Our view was that whilst EV tariffs might be a bit cheaper it was not enough to recoup the cost of installing the charger. Slow charging is also supposed to be better for you battery. We also have an electric rang cooker which draws a steady 1-2kw when topping up its heat, so more less cheap hours suited us better. Hope that helps!
