Hi all,

Submitting an MCOL claim against Lufthansa and wanted to make sure I’ve worked everything through correctly. It was for a BOM-MUC-LHR flight, originally supposed to land at 8:05. BOM-MUC was cancelled and rebooked to BOM-FRA-LHR less than 12 hours before departure. Actual landing time was 12:15.

I’ve put the claim in through their website, and have their final response that they won’t pay me anything. No reason given, randomly made reference to my frequent flyer status like that has anything to do with it. They gave the option to go to ADR (Schlichtungsstelle Reise & Verkehr) but from research that is quite cumbersome, and I would be claiming under UK261 anyway rather than EU261.

My understanding for MCOL is – because the distance was over 3,500km I’m entitled to £520 per person (three passengers including an infant with no seat – total £1,060). I can also do 8% interest from claim submission. I would get the full amount because even after rebooking the delay was over 4 hours and no extraordinary circumstances (there was definitely no weather, other flights were leaving on time). Third country to UK on an EU airline is covered by the regulation as well so think I’m ok?
