Good morning from Amoy Hotel, Singapore.
Just a quick note about our flight from LHR – SIN. A380 upper deck in CW.
After our successful flight down from Newcastle, we parked ourselves in the T5B lounge, that was very quiet. I only had salad and nachos, but nothing to complain about.
We boarded, through the usual carnage of everyone crowding the gates and took our seats 51A/B. Obviously the A380 CW seats are looking very tired, but all seemed to be ok.
Funnily one of the crew in our section had been commuting to LHR on our plane from Newcastle and she recognised us.
We left 30 minutes late, the flight was uneventful (see later) and we arrived 25 mins late.
Service and food on board was very good.
The only issue was that the OH’s seat got stuck in bed mode and had to be manually put back, but fortunately it stopped working after she had slept, so didn’t really cause any problem. Additionally one of the window storage bins got stuck shut, with her bag containing passports etc in it, but the staff were great and after 3 members of crew had a go at it, they managed to force it open.
Automatated immigration through SIN is very smooth if, unlike the German guy at the scanner next to me, you have completed your online ICA. A scan of your passport, a photo and a fingerprint and you’re done. From landing to getting in the Grab Taxi took 1 hour.
All in all, apart from the hard product needing a complete overhaul it was a decent experience.
Now off for a few days of being a tourist in Singapore and then on to Vietnam.
