Does anyone know whether when BA cancel a flight due to ATC restrictions whether it is BA or ATC that decide which flight(s) will be cancelled? I have Travel insurance refusing a claim for hotel cost because we needed to abandon a 5 day trip from Edinburgh on Friday connecting in Heathrow where the EDI -LHR leg was cancelled due to storm Eowyn. BA said the earliest they could rebook us was on Sunday so no point arriving Sunday PM to return home on Tuesday. Apparently insurance says I’m not covered if the carrier cancels the flight.
Yes it would have been BA that decided to cancel the particular flight. When ATC imposes flow control it’s always the airlines that select which flights to delay / cancel.
Surely if you cancelled the entire trip BA will have to refund the costs of the flights – which is why your insurance won’t pay out as they won’t allow you to double dip on getting your costs back.
