I have accumulated 500,000 amex point in the UK (and 50,000 in the US). I’m not sure how to get best travel value from them. I fly UK to States at least twice a year, and UK to Southern Europe at least 3 times a year. Is the best thing just to put them all into British Airways? Grateful for any advice.
Don’t put them into Avios or any other scheme until you are ready to spend them.
This blog has “valuations” on Avios, Marriott, Hilton etc. You should look up your next travel plan and see if (a) there is award availability for the flight/hotel you want (b) if it matches or beats Rob’s valuation — if it does, use the points instead of money.
Unless you plan to close the Amex account, do not transfer the points and follow what memesweeper said.
Next step would be to transfer the minimum number of points to schemes you are likely to use as the first transfer can usually take days. Subsequent transfers will be instant.
You can transfers these to multiple airlines but only when you need too. Keep them in MR.
I have transferred to Delta and then booked their partners. Recently looked at Singapore airlines and frankly amazed at their availability and reasonable prices.
There are so many options it depends on you travel plans but BA would be very low on the list
