Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Adding child to household account – technical problem

  • 15 posts

This could just be a momentary glitch or some classic BA IT at work, but wondering if anyone else has had the same issue.

I’m trying to add my child to our household account. I receive the email invitation (eventually, several hours later), follow the link to the sign-up form, but then I can’t actually fill it in. So many of the dropdown boxes or other boxes to be filled in just aren’t clickable. The section for his date of birth, for example, has the day available but then month and year don’t work. Random boxes like title or preferred airport can be selected

    I’ve tried several different browsers.

Anyone else had a similar problem or know of a better (functioning) way to get a child signed up to BA Club?

Hi – had exactly the same issue and posted about it a couple of weeks back. Someone else responded to that post to say they had the same issue. It is a common problem and not just you / us. I went on the BA Club live chat, got through to an agent and they said it would be escalated to their tech team. I then a generic response to explain how to issue the invite email (which, like you, I already had). My response to that email has not been answered. Maybe worth logging the same issue with the technical support team as the more people flag it, they may do something about it.

Don’t know how to link to the original thread, but it is on page 2 or 3 of the forum as last response was 2 weeks ago.

I even thought it was the same thread and got all excited thinking there would be a positive update 🤣

Have just found that thread now, thanks.

Going to try their online chat as well and bang the drum a bit more, but doubt it’ll lead to much quickly, which is a problem, because I need to add an infant to a booking in the next 10 days…

I will have another go tomorrow as well. Escalate it again to their technical team.

I explained the problem in the online chat. Eventually the guy seemed to understand and said he’d flag it, but it would be 7-10 days. We fly in 10 days, so said that doesn’t really help. So I called up and she said it can all be done over the phone (just not this time, since we needed to make another change to the booking first). Isn’t what a previous agent has said, so let’s see…

Let me know how you go. I don’t have the same urgency as you but would certainly like to find a solution that doesn’t involve the 7-10 working day promise that I too was made. Good luck

Anyone had an update on this?

There is still an ongoing technical error with the form on this sign up page.

Same issues here. I even tried right clicking and “inspect” in Chrome to remove the “disabled” property on the input fields and just get a technical error when trying to submit. If anyone figures it out, I would love to know what worked as I need to add a lap infant too, but my flight is much farther in the future than @charlie27 ‘s flight.

    Chat was pretty much useless.

Brief update on this one then with a bit of a workaround.

When it finally came to adding my child onto my booking, the agent on the phone told me to add him to the friends and family list, which doesn’t involve a sign-up page and was pretty much an instant job. She was then able to pull across the details and add to the booking.
It doesn’t solve the actual issue that you can’t add a new person without a BA account to your household, but it did what was needed at the time.

Yep this works for a reward flight. Wouldn’t be ideal for a cash purchase as wouldn’t earn avios, as they are not a BAEC member?

I have had this issue for the last month with BA. First it would not send the link, and then it would not allow me to fill out the form. After much back and forth, one agent advised me to create a new BA membership number for my daughter, and just use my DOB as they have to be over 18.

I was then able to add this to my household account, and link her to my reward booking. As it took 6 weeks to resolve, there was no avios availability, so I had to pay to add her to the booking.

I suggested this on the other household thread so it sort of works then.

Has anyone tried adding people to the family and friends list, then moving them over to household account?
I’ve got no one to add to try this idea so someone else will have to.

This nonsense has been going on since at least April when I was trying to find work around.

@cmcg wouldn’t the DOB be an issue when actually going and adding the person to the flight? In my case it’s an infant and I’m trying to not buy an extra seat. Thanks

I will otherwise try the friends and family route as my flight is on Avios.

@charlie27 adding the infant as a friends and family member was perfect – was able to call in and add them as a lap infant no problem. Thank you!!
