Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Adding infant to existing booking

When adding our baby to an existing booking, we were advised that due to a ‘system glitch’, they would have to create a new booking ref for the infant (no additional seat booked) and link to the existing booking. I wouldn’t normally be too worried about this but am using Airportr and am concerned this dummy booking will throw up an error when trying to check our baby in on my seat and then lose our money on the Airportr booking. I’ve been assured when I check in that the linked bookings will generate my baby’s boarding pass on my seat, but I just don’t trust BA’s workflows are that automated. I also received conflicting advice from another agent who said that having an infant on a separate booking will throw up the need to have a passport verified at airport check in, so doesn’t fill me with confidence.

Has anyone had a linked booking with their infant and checked in online? Would be good to know your experience.

As an aside, one agent told me that it was not a system glitch, but rather it is not always possible to add an infant to an existing booking. It is only possible to add to an existing booking if the originally booked fare class is still available. If that fare class has sold out, then although they charge the same for adding the infant, they need to do the linked bookings workaround.
