Morning all,
We have a one-way 241 redemption booked for next year, and will shortly be calling to add a return leg when the reward seats become available in a few days (open jaw).
Can anyone advise if the additional seat availability that opens up when using a 241 will still be applicable on the return leg when I call BA?
Many thanks.
You won’t see any additional reward seats at D-355.
The additional availability unlocked by the voucher is something that occurs as you get nearer travel date, BA may make more seats available as they tinker with fare classes based on how cash sales are performing.
I think what you’re asking is if the extra seats can be accessed if you’ve already used the voucher on the outbound? BA phone agent will be able to see them, you won’t, and as noted they’re not usually there until some time after T-355.
I have very occasionally seen them at T-355 but not recently. Though that might be due to searching from a region.
I have seen them at T-355 but there you go. If you’re calling at T-355 anyway, you can likely pick from the guaranteed seats anyway.
Changing dates on a 241 booking is one of my biggest annoyances. I really have no way of telling if additional seats are available or not, so need to constantly call BA or ask people who have a voucher.
On a different note, I am looking to travel next month and additional seats are now available on the long haul (these did only just open up at T-30, but sadly LHR-MAN is a real problem in summer hols).
Do we know if the additional availability goes off any particular booking class? Trying to look for a return ticket too but no spare 2-1 in my account.

Yes, it’s driven by levels of I class availability which fluctuates considerably and is often associated with married segments that could be UK domestics or continental European gateways, so the same amount of availability or any may not show from London alone. There are fairly distinct patterns that can be observed.

Driven by or equal to? I have seen I class available but no extra seats.
Funny that I am having the opposite problem with “regional availability”, KUL-LHR is fine, MAN is not.
@YC – driven by. The number of I class seats needs to be fairly high, sometimes, but not always up to the max 9 availability. However, looking at one leg may not show what you think if it’s part of a married segment. The lower cash CW fares as represented by I can change all the time; it’s not necessarily just a case of one I seat booked, one less showing as available etc.
I’m not surprised by what you say re regional availability as I think the way it works is often misrepresented here!
@ekposh, have you tried using the stopover option? Sometimes doing this results in domestic sectors showing that don’t otherwise. It might also be that there’s no CE available on avios on the LHR-MAN leg, but there is economy, which you can select separately.
Availability is usually pretty good IME unless you’re travelling on a Saturday or Sunday when there are fewer departures plus (probably) higher demand.
@Northernlass, thanks. Problem is it’s changing a ticket so can’t use stopover but have called, looked at separate tickets online on a friend’s account who has a companion and even happy to do the leg in Economy.
As you guessed, its a Saturday in August and it seems to be a common theme across the summer weekends as had a look at other dates out of curiosity.
Was hoping to extend my holiday by one day, but it’s not worth it if I need to get a train!

I had similar, had to book the LHR-HND leg then call up to add the Manchester leg. Same with our flights to DEL.
Many thanks for the replies, everyone. I managed to get Club World seats at T-355. Annoyingly, I forgot to ask if there was higher availability due to us using the voucher.
However, later that morning I could see two seats available, down from 4. So it looks like I just booked from the regular allowance.
No seats at all left now – but I have used the voucher, so can’t check extra availability on test booking.
