Forums Payment cards American Express Platinum Amex Priority Pass reservation trial – results?

  • 85 posts

So last year we were allowed to prebook lounge visits on platinum, and it was useful during the busier months. Did Amex every publish (officially, or at any of the points events) how the trial went, and if it would ever return?

At the moment, I’d say I have a 50% chance of getting into the lounge now, especially in the regions. 0% chance between now and September at least – without paying £6pp anyway.

It was a corporate trial, so the results will be kept internal. Unless and until the PR department find a way to spin the results into some future announcement about ‘enhancements’

Here’s my guess as to what any comms would look like…

“Customers told us they found the pre-booking experience too restrictive”

“Whilst we acknowledge the success of the pilot, until all lounges in the network are participating, we have elected to pause the programme to ensure a more consistent customer experience”

“Given the popularity of pre-booking, we have rolled this service out across most Priority Pass lounges at a competitive rate of just US$20 per passenger, which customers have told us represents excellent value for money.”

Here’s what I think will happen. When Priority Pass gets enough lounges to agree to offer pre-booking via its platform, Amex will offer an annual statement credit equivalent to a certain number of pre-bookings made via the Priority Pass app or website.

Snag will always be that PP will always sit WELL below direct cash paid bookings, airline bookings and bookings via ‘partners who pay more’ (OnTheBeach etc) and nothing will be available at peak periods anyway.

Another ‘valuable’ benefit gets slightly less valuable.
