Are Rapid PCR tests valid for entry into UK?

We will be flying back from Santiago, and at the airport Hilton Garden Inn, Genosur offer a Rapid PCR test with results returned within 4 hours.

Despite a bit of searching, I can’t find verification that a Rapid PCR test is acceptable to allow us to board the plane to Heathrow.

Even after reading the headforpoints article https://www.headforpoints.com/2021/12/01/3-hour-rapid-pcr-tests-not-valid-for-uk-arrivals-testing/comment-page-4/

That article is about the test after arrival into UK.

Yes, the test for boarding a plane to England can be PCR, Rapid PCR, Rapid Antigen, Lateral Flow, etc, anything (as long as it meets the sensitivity etc rules). All the details are here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england

Thanks Sara – I saw that page, but it doesnt specifically mention Rapid – Sounds like I will have to brush up on my Spanish and search the Genosur site for details of the specificity and sensitivity of their test.

I’m fairly confident it will be OK but it all adds to the hassle factor!

From a science perspective there is nothing like a Rapid PCR.

A PCR is a PCR…. What makes it rapid is if the laboratory processes it in priority to the others.

But it is still a PCR !
