Has anyone noticed the recent change in boarding music on BA? It’s so garish.
Nooooooooo…… I like the original British Airways Boarding Music ‘Flower Duet’ by Lakme 🙂

The ‘Flower Duet” was written by Delibes and is from his opera ‘Lakmé’
Well, it’s sung *by* Lakme (and Mallika) in the opera although has BA ruined it really with years of incessant playing down the phone and on board. (Though if you’ve seen the film The Hunger it may still elicit a smile!)
What is the boarding music now?
I’m surprised there hasn’t been more chatter about the INANE copy on the menus – “Our beds are famously flat, but the same can’t be said about our breakfasts” (er, says who?) and the “cheeky drink”… all very cheap!
Oh yes, they are trying to get down with Gen Z and the influencers, and the like. I can just about deal with hen-do speak, but if I spot a SPAG error I’ll be needing that cheeky drink myself …
No idea about the boarding music, I must have trained myself to zone it out at last!

What if the breakfast is pancakes?!

Hahaha. From a branding perspective it just doesn’t add up – all of their big ad campaigns are pared-back and sophisticated, their email and website comms are confusing and overly formal, and then on-board it’s like a 13 year old on TikTok.
I think, rather like their website flows, they haven’t considered the full customer journey and teams are all “siloed” into individual depts, with no crosscomms, which is why some things are impossible or needlessly hard to do. Plus all the revenue they leave on the table as a result.
Easier said than done!
Not sure I’d class it as garish (and certainly not TikTok!) but there were definitely a few Gilbert & Sullivan numbers mixed in there when I flew BA last August.
No music BA could play during boarding would put me in a bad mood. I’m just glad to be on the plane jetting off somewhere!

Even on the way home?!
Many many years ago, 70s , I got on and they were playing instrumental version of the protest song “the on the eve of destruction” , don’t now whose bright idea that was
I usually play the Flower Duet when booking my tickets for that nostalgia feel. Slamming it into your ears down a phone like whilst on hold (at 3KHz resolution) was an assault both to my hearing and on Delibes.
Perhaps in the near future you’ll be able to “bid” on what music gets played as you board.

Ha!
Don’t forget the occasional soul-destroying pause that makes you think you’re about to get through, only to have your hopes dashed by a trite “we really really really really care about your call” message. Lies. Maybe getting someone to slap you around the back of your head every so often would deliver the same sort of effect.
Virgin Atlantic have a lot to answer for with both their boarding music and their phoneline hold music. I have nothing against Jessie J, she has talent. But I’ve had enough of her zigzagging up the musical scale when I’m trying to juggle email tabs and remember what to say.
Maybe not the normal habitat of many on here, but Jet2 earns a raspberry from me for using Jess Glynne for sooooooo long

Brilliant! 😀

Jet2 also use hunks with abs to play the role of dad of two young kids in their annual tv ads. It’s as if they’re unaware that due to housing and other factors, dads are older than previous generations were. Abs my foot!

On the way home I’m too depressed about coming back to our English weather to notice anything 😉
This is when you should be planning the next trip!

I once snagged return Avios redemption tickets to YVR while relaxing on holiday on a beach in Ibiza. The smugness was off the scale.
